Most BMW owners especially from the F10 up can afford an M3. Maybe they're not into the "wannabe race car driver thing".

Happens to me on the daily. Kinda turned me off about being a new ///M owner coming from the VW/Audi crowd, where most are friendly when they see another like modded car.
I never understood why people feel they need to be so stuck up in the car crowd...small minded people I guess. Nonetheless, I will continue to acknowledge other ///M cars whether they like it or not! Haha

I think OP was talking about M3 on M3 doucheyness, which I haven't experienced. But as a younger person driving a new M3 I certainly get looked at a different way by some.

Rant / generalization of the douchiest/worst/most reckless drivers out there, in my humble opinion. In order:
A. Completely oblivious driver in an ill maintained "late model" Toyota Trecel / Paseo. Has on average 2.5/4 hubcaps and 60% of car in working order. Usually goes in left lane at 1/2 the speed limit.
1. Nissan Altima drivers. Especially the ones with the 3.5L engine
2. Infiniti G37 drivers
3. 3 series drivers (non-M)
4. E46 M3 drivers (tend to be younger and drive their cars like they stole it)*

*I have traditionally been in this category (even though I have an e90), but age is getting to me

I'm not the kind of guy that initiates the wave or thumbs up (as I'm young and probably looked at as the snobby rich kid), but I gladly wave back.

One awkward moment was when someone in an IS350 gave me a thumbs up when the GF was in the car (she's not into the whole car scene). She did the eye roll haha.

What's funny is when you wave at people in other kinds of cars. I used to own an Evo and so I always wave at other Evo owners. There's less Evos in the entire United States than 1 year of BMW M3 production. It's a small community and most people know or have seen each other in the area.

When I wave to them in the M3, they take off at WOT... no I'm not trying to race.. just want to say hi.

Agree with whoever it was that said that G35/37 drivers are the biggest d-bags around. There aren't too many other M3's around where I live, but it seems my very presence on the road brings out the absolute worst in other drivers around me--regardless of what they are driving. Oh, and Honda and Prius drivers always have something to prove.

You've probably forgotten, but I'm pretty sure that's the only way an Evo can be driven...

You been Flashed

When I was a little kid, my parents had a 1959 VW Beetle when it was still pretty much a rare novelty sighting. The "flash" was used then too to greet other bugs. So maybe we should start it up again?

Idiots with issues. All of them.
That's an inverse correlation - but agree with the thought!

LA is a tough town for M3 waving. ~70% of the time I get punked.

ditto, also a former Evo owner here...more cohesive brotherhood of Evo owners back in 2003-2010.

After that, the cars moved downmarket and high school and college kids started getting their hands on it, and then there goes the neighborhood...

We need to vote on an M3Post salute, and I think your idea is good.

Not too much camaraderie out here... but sometimes thumbs ups are exchanged. I enjoy waving with my heavy right foot to all makes and models as well.
