Anyone here use a GoPro HD Motorsports cam for the track and etc? I just ordered one on Amazon since they finally dropped it to an acceptable price(260$). Any suggestions on settings and etc?

$206?

Fak. I should have waited. Randall, now would be the time....

Anyways, yeah, I do use one, here's a video that I took of my first time out at Buttonwillow. The image stabilization on these GoPros are really good, although they just can't beat out the wind noise. Image quality is great though.

Just set it to 1080p and let her rip. Make sure to get a big card (I think I have 16 gig card?) and an extra battery, as both run out kind of quickly. I think with one full charge and an empty card, both ran out at about the same time recording 1080p in about 2.5 sessions.

usually the 'out of the box' white balance settings are pretty good for out door/day light shooting. I tend to shoot at highest resolution and compress the file later in the computer.

Make sure you have a big memory card though. I use a 16 gig and its fine for a full day of tracking and then some.

Not 206, 260. Lowest its been on Amazon is about 230-240 but I didn't wanna wait and more and saw it drop to 260$ in the morning so I went for it since I had a 200$ amazon gift card. (Plus no tax and free shipping, love amazon.)

Have you tried 720p at 60fps? I was reading some reviews and someone was saying 720p at 60fps seems better than 1080p at 30fps or something along those lines.

I was going to say at $206, wow....haha not paying 100% attention.

Haven't tried it yet, but I will for my next track day now that you've said this.

If cam is mounted outside the cabin use cnt (default setting) for exposure.

If mounted inside the cabin use spt(spot meter) for exposure.

I use r3 60fps if I'm gonna use a super slow mode during video production.

And use r5 for 1080p res and 30fps.

I'm usually using r5 when recording at the track. If the cam is mounted on my helmet I''m in r4 wide mode.

For both/either Button Willow 9th-10 and/or Streets of Willow July 30-31st,

If I can convince my friend to come, I will have him drive my Z4 up

So on one day I'll use my M3 and the other I'll use my Z4 and compare the times and experience

What do you guys think?

Or if he wants to pay, he can track with me so we run both cars both days.
What would be a good amount to charge him?
I mean, he will obviously have to pay the registration fees for one of the cars and gas for that car.
But he will be putting wear and tear on my car (brakes, tires, etc). What would be fair to charge him?

I wouldn't let him track my car period, let alone drive it. I've learned from personal experience that no one gives a shit as much as you do about your car. Next thing you know he's going to take a corner too quick and flip.

If you are going to let him track your car though, I wouldn't do it short of triple digits personally. Plus he pays for gas and his own track day expenses.

Depending on how good of a friend he is....maybe like $100-200 if he's a good friend hahaha I don't know.

But Brian does bring up a good point....there are a lot of things that could happen on the track that no matter how good of a driver your friend is, can happen.

Sounds like $200 might be a good idea, including vehicle insurance, per day. That'll be inclusive of tire/vehicle wear and such.

Sounds steep, but still, it'll cover your costs if anything.

Well, I've known him since we were about 8 years old and is my best friend.

He's had a high performance car (350Z with mods) so it's not as if he's going from a Camry to a Z4

I'm thinking this:

He pays for his track expense (registrations, gas, helmet, timing, gas) AND pays for my track expensive along with food and Motel accommodations, plus he pays for the car wash for both cars

But that might be pretty expensive lol

Only reason I'm considering this is cause I'm going to lemon the Z4 so as long as it's not damaged, I could care less about wearing the brakes, engine, tires, etc.
Tires just need to have 4/32 left. they're around 7 now.

Sounds like he'd be dropping 7 on the weekend all things considered. Ouch.

Yeah that sounds pretty damn expensive hahaha.

But considering your situation I'd just charge $150ish. I think that's fair.

Exclamation

Ok I'm still debating on new tires.

RE11 (245/35/19, 265/35/19)
PSS (255/35/19, 275/35/19)
NT05 (245/35/19, 275/35/19)

The NT05s are $300 cheaper than the RE11s and PSS. The NT05s won't last as long though.

I say this just off of sizes. I would still do 255/285 though.

I'd go with the RE11's if I were tracking a few more times this year.Overall dry grip should be better than PSS.Although PSS may offer a better ride.

Do you know how long the RE11s last compared to the PSS? Or just in general?
