OE 18's, upgrade to wider rear tires...
Looking to change the OE tires. The car came with OE 18'" BMW wheels, front tires- 245/40 and rear tires- 265/40 Mich PS2.
For the rear ratio, is a 275/35 tire (Michelin SS) the correct upgrade size? Thanks |

From my quick calculations, the optimal one is a 275/40 18, not the 275/35.
stock 265/40 is 26.35" tall 275/35 is 25.58" tall 275/40 is 26.66" tall Far less varience with the 40 aspects. I have the 275/40 18's (PS2s) on my rear.

I was curious to see the cost difference and maybe get a few millimeteres more performance. The stock size, 265/40 rears is probably what I'll get. Thanks for the input!! |

I do run 265/35 18's on apex arc-8 wheels for auto-x on the front though. But for my street tires I still use the stock OEM tire size.

265/35's might be the ticket... I'll have to look at that for a stock front wheel...

Will 275/40's fit? I'd just do 275/35s.

On the front? Hell no, on the rear there's room to do all kinds of wacky stuff, there's TONS of room but the front is only going to handle about a 26" tire before it starts to wear out the fender liners
I'd go 255/40 with 275/40 in the rear, the 265/35 is more than 1" shorter than the rears when paired with a 275/40 and that's a big split

I'll be burning off the PS2's later this spring at the San Diego Chapter driving school.

I went with RE11's in 245/40 and 265/40. I love these tires and they didn't come in the larger size... Both M3's have the RE11's on them. Now if they'd just make the sizes for the 19's on the X5...

Good info here. I like more tire options, we're very limited in 245 265 combos. 255 275 is also limited, but gives us choices. |

I would have done the RE-11s in stock sizes, but they were gone. Hard to pass up on the cheaper PSS and longer tire wear though.

True. PSS blow for the track though, if you're into that kind of thing. Sidewall is butter soft (the tire guys love mounting them they are so soft it is very easy to do).
