Great pics and writeup! Its funny how you described their HQ building... because that is exactly how their German office looks from the Autobahn. A few weeks ago I was driving on the A5 (Autobahn) traveling to Basel(CH) and noticed BBS HQ in Herbolzheim (79336). I too was wondering what was inside the unassuming building.

Nice work, I enjoyed your photos.

oh yeah man, just as Toyota makes more profit on aggregate selling Camrys than VW Group makes on selling Lambo Gallardos. If BBS solely focuses on aftermarket, racing, and high end cars, then they will be highly specialized and low volume producer. To the extent they have process and part commonality in their factories, it makes a lot of sense to manufacture for standard retail OEM lines. When you compare Camry to M3 or high end production, we're talking about factors around 10 here. Even though the profit margin is lower for both the car (for Toyota) and the parts on it (for BBS and Denso and all suppliers), the volume more than makes up for the low price.

I wouldn't be surprised BBS makes more aggregate profit off one contract with Toyota (for Camry wheels) than they do with VW's (Bugatti wheels). Though again, one must recongize, VW Group likely negotitates as a boarder buyer across all lines (Audi, VW, Lambo, Bugatti, etc.)

Seperately, because I'm not sure the method of how wheels are manufactured, (batches, job shop, assembly line, etc), it might cost BBS a lot more money and time to "retool" a current assembly process or line to switch from a standard OEM wheel to making Bugatti wheels, this aside from the higher end specs and cost of manufacturing the Bugatti wheels.
