Borla "ATAK" Catback Exhaust
So has anyone actually bought and installed Borla's new catback with the "ATAK" technology? It's priced at around $1700 shipped (w/ tax) at most places. There's only one youtube clip of it and the mic placement is horrible. Just wondering if anyone on here has purchased it or has heard it?
I was planning on getting the M perf, but really have a hard time forking over $3K+ for an exhaust, although I'm sure I can recove around 30% of it back after 3 years when my lease it up. But the Borla is almost cheap enough to where it's worth a try. TIA. |

Not too exciting but not bad overall.

Agreed. 21 lbs. weight savings. ~$1500 at Turner this month.
Here's another (if you can here it over the tire squealing..). Seem to remember 4sevens having some additional fly by vids up from the One Lap event that revealed a bit more character. Can't find now. |

That's a good clip. Given the name, it doesn't sound as racey as I would've thought. Reminds me of an E. Sport. Really deep, not very aggressive. Sounds good though.

This isn't the ATAK Borla, it is the aggressive. Different animal. The ATAK Borla is borderline noise legal as is. Remove the primary cats and this exhaust sounds killer.
The ATAK Borla is my next exhaust. Dave

I had a Borla on my e46 w/midpipe, loved what it did and it didn't drone. I haven't checked out Borla as an option on this model yet. Just for fun, I'd love to check out a race exhaust that doesn't/has minimal drone. |

Unfortunately guys I haven't heard the exhaust in person. My car was going to be one of the test cars for this exhaust but they took forever in getting back to me. From my understanding there is no drone, but it is very aggressive and meant for the rest of the exhaust to be OEM. Remove the primary cats and I'm sure it would add to the volume.

The Borla exhaust in that video is not the new ATAK exhaust.
I posted a video on youtube. My e92 M has DCT, Afe Stage 2 intake (the one that retains oem intake box), AA pulley, and borla exhaust (aggressive type; sorry it's not the ATAK one). For better result, use good speakers with a subwoofer to appreciate the deep/low tone. It's much louder than the stock exhaust. It made a lot of car drivers and pedastrians turn heads and even gave me thumbs up. And because it's louder than stock, the cabin is not as quiet as with stock exhaust. So if you want a more quiet cabin, you should stick with the stock exhaust. I love the sound and sporty loudness of the Borla exhaust so this is perfect for me. Also because of the low frequency tone, you can even feel it outside the car (just like you can feel it when your home theatre system's subwoofer produces a great low frequency sound). Stock exhaust cannot do that. And when you downshift couple of gears with DCT, it will give an aggressive "voom" which is very cool just like a Ferrari. You can hear it in the video after my M passed the v-cam (even though it sounded like a wind gust when my v-cam picked up the sound). I still can remember the first time I start the engine when I just had the exhaust installed. I was like "wow, is it my M's sound?!!" It's so much difference comparing to the stock. I loved it a lot. Also with Afe intake, the Borla exhaust sound seems to be a bit louder (YES!!!)? Last edited by suprafrank; 07-07-2012 at 11:30 PM.. |

Interesting exhaust but there isn't much info on it. No comparisons or reviews that I can find besides the muscle car stuff. I like that Bimmerfest clip, sounds great!
