Funny GTI
I passed a guy in a brand new GTI going about 65 and then he feeled threatened so he tries to catch up to me. I put my car in M mode and take it to 110+. I totally lose him. What is it about guys in slower cars trying to prove themselves? It would be like me trying to show myself up with a 911 Turbo. Idiotic. At least I got to show him his place

LOL... I get it all the time. Mostly younger kids though. From Civic Si's, GTI, good ole STI's. Damn even maxima's and accords. The worst culprit has got to be the STI's as I seem run in to them very often. One observsation ive made is that they never try to run with me on an open road but rather always while in traffic. I dont condone driving like a tool in traffic so I dont pay them mind. I could only imagine their sense of triumph looking in their rear view mirrors seeing me lagging behind.

It's like if you saw a 911 Turbo and wanted to egg the person on to see what their car can do. People do it all the time. |

Seems that happens all the time. Only time it really bothers me is when I'm cruising home at night and don't want to be bothered.
If it was 911 turbo that passed me at a good rate, I'd probably want to follow. Doesn't mean I'm trying to race or anything. |

You are probably right. I tend to take things too personally when I drive.

I wouldn't under estimate the GTI, especially if it has a larger turbo.
My previous car was a GTI with a Ko4 turbo... My laptimes around Buttonwillow where 2:11's which was held back by the software tune that I had which caused me to overheat by the 2nd or 3rd lap so rather than concentrate on driving I was always having to worry about the motor. My buddy is getting 2:08 around Buttonwillow CW13 in a similar tuned GTI with the Ko4, BBK, Coilovers, grippy tires, full interior, no aero mods... Just did Buttonwillow this past weekend in my stock M3 and the best I can manage is 2:15 laptimes where as the modded M3's where 2:10's to sub 2 Also... GTI's with a Ko4 are easily capable of a 12 sec quarter mile at close to 120 mph with a proper launch... And then there are GTI's with stage 3+ turbo that have 450 whp going to the wrong end. All this and the car would still get 27 to 30mpg... Anyhow since selling the GTI I moved the turbo and all its supporting mods into my wife's Stock looking Passat CC |

I've seen a AWE Tuning GTI on the track, and it can put down some serious power. That thing was flying and apparently puts down 400+ to the wheels and only weights 3,200 pounds.

6spd, power nothing and the dealer threw in wheels/tires from the Fahrenheit Jetta GLi (I couldn't stand the stockers). Had a mild APR tune and it was a riot. My next winter beater will be a 4d Golf R. Anyway, OP - I'd give the kid/guy a break. The GTi is probably their first taste of performance. You tearing ass to triple digits when he showed up on your bumper was probably the biggest compliment you could have paid him. |
