7 Passenger SUV recommendations?

Guys, my parents are looking to get a 7 passenger SUV for around $35k or less. They want a 'luxury' brand and it can be used so long as it's still under the factory warranty and is in the latest iteration of the model. Price for new can be higher as long as it's got a great financing deal (e.g Infiniti's running 0.9%/72 mo. on QX56's).

I could only really come up w/the QX56, but I think they're looking to keep their payment as close as possible to the Linc. Aviator they have right now ($550-650/mo.). The Infiniti even w/0.9% would likely be around $700+/mo, unless you guys have any info on how much they're going for right now? Audi Q7's hover around that range in the used category, but are they reliable?

Any other ideas?

The big Q7 is very reliable and has plenty of space as well as being very well appointed. I got one for a weekend last year (3.0TDI) and found it great fun with the high driving position and for such a big car it's surprisingly easy to position on the road.

The brother drives an X6 and it far more sporty but it's not comfortable and don't give the same feel of luxury even though it's more expensive.

P.S.

Why not check out the XC90, great car if money is tighter.

As some posted, Q7 is a great car, but overpriced. You will not get it (with any options) nowhere close to your price range.
MDX on the other hand is a great vehicle, very much on par with the Q7, and you can get a new one for low 40's.

If they decide to look at GMC they should check out the Acadia. Its a 8 passenger SUV, looks very good on the exterior and interior & very roomy. My wife loves hers.

you finance it for 72 months and in a couple of years flip it (sell it and pay off whats left on the finance)

For under $35k you should get a Highlander, Rav4 or Pilot because most of the other vehicles will run you at least $40k.

Granted the finance rate is low, but if the depreciation is typical and one is not putting a lot of cash down (presuming that 6 year finance programs are for those that primarily don't have the cash to put down) then you would have a hard time getting out of a 6 year loan with any equity. Granted that the example is an Infiniti, but depreciation is a killer for most of the vehicles out there. Also, as an assumption again, the typical customer for a six year loan is probably not going to be paying the difference outright in cash.

So at some point into the 6 year term, you are going to take loss on the vehicle and attempt to roll it into the next one? Do this enough times and the negative equity will eventually become un-escapable, especially in the curent credit climate.

Shocking how the credit market is abyssmal with the non-chalant acceptance of recurring debt, long term debt products, and "creative financing"......

This type of logic reminds of the thread from the guy who made $40K a year and was thinking about get a new M3....

Q7 is the best 7 pass SUV out there. Early 07 had some issues just like any new 1st production models. It might be tough to find one under warranty for 35k but definitely recommend it.

Just picked up a brand new 2008 GMC Yukon totally loaded..(first american purchase)...the sticker was $54k but got it for $34k and they threw in rubber winter mats......amazing...

Good to hear some favorable opinions on the Audi, it's in the 'front runner' position right now. There are some good deals out there on the Q7 used under factory warranty. Was considering an XC90, but my cousin's XC just randomly caught on fire one day on the hwy about a year ago (with her kids and all in it -- scary!). It probably was just a freak thing, but it still sits there in your mind making it not so appealing, especially w/all the other choices out there.

MDX is a good choice, but I'm not sure if Acura's running any financing incentives on it that would bring it to a reasonable payment. Btw. 72 mth. financing at 0.9% is a good deal IMO. Better to hold on to your money and take advantage of APYs of 3.3%+ at the banks. They never sell off their vehicles, they just use them till the cars die or it's not worth putting repair $ into anymore.

Wow, never knew Yukons were being discounted that much. How's the interior on them these days? They saw an '08 Navigator w/25k mi. for $28k, but they found the exterior too ugly/busy to get over and the gauges inside too old school looking.

Q7s look freakin massive....I always thought it has a "rhino" look to them, big, tough, and even a little scary. Definitely my pick!! Hopefully gas prices will stay low.

the Q7 sucked ass when i test drove it. The QX56 is a very good car though and is priced nicely too which is a bargain imho. I test drove these 2 plus the GL550 and the Escalade and then went with the GL550. but trust me the Q7 may look good but it hauls ass and isn't a true 7 seater. Its very uncomfortable in the back and has a trucky feeling unlike the other 3 SUV's that I test drove.

+1 Also I find the Audi's to be ergonomic disasters. I never could stand the tear drop gauges either.

Do they really need 7 passengers? Most people don't is why I ask. I would get a smaller SUV and rent a suburban on the rare occasions when 7 people have to be hauled. They will hate driving a large tug all the time.

The best deal going righ now is a Cadillac Escalade which I think looks nice. $70k loaded and they are selling for $50-$53k.
