clanking noise in my left back wheel

i noticed a noise in my back left wheel as i backed up but as i drove away it still sounded like something rattling around which eventually dissipated as i hit 20 mph and faster.

Stone caught in the dust shield between the shield and the rotor. Either remove the wheel and take it off or wait for it to fall Luton it's own. I had the same issue and had to remove the wheel to find it and remove it.

Mine just started doing this too. I've seen many threads on the "cow bell" noise...weird it started happening after I threw on my Remus exhaust. But I haven't checked the dust shield just yet.

I had it too. Same location. Drove me nuts for about a month. Fed up and went to a mechanic. Noise mysteriously disappeared while driving to mechanic.. Like it knew or something. Mechanic said to come back when it actually rattled. A week later it returned for a few days, then disappeared for good. I'm guessing it was a pebble stuck in the dust shield as others have suggested.

Correct.

Half my 80 yard driveway is crushed limestone and every once in a while I forget and come down it too fast. That'll catch a stone sometimes and that cow bell noise follows. Try cleaning the inside drums of your wheels with a Daytona brush and you can replicate the exact sound by pinging the dust shield.
