Why doesn’t Elon make a pickup truck or anyone else for that matter? The torque produced by electric motors is insane. He could advertise best towing capabilities in history for a pickup truck. Trucks are the number one market in the US. How hard would be to produce a body on frame truck, with a huge battery pack between the frame rails.

I have. Dealer gave them for extended test drives back when they were introduced. Took one for the hell of it, even though it is ugly as hell. I believe I remember reading an all electric X3 is coming. That sounds like something I would be interested in, depending on range.

missing billionaire doors and flying buttresses...j/k kind of

i find tesla too restrained in their styling. they have so much design freedom and they come up with a wedge, a door crease and a vent. it's pretty good, but it could be so much more! especially with their supercar.

At $200k it doesn't require you to be stupid wealthy like the million dollar hypercars it can outperform. Keeping the roadster name and conservative styling makes it a hypercar sleeper.

Partially because I'm bored, partially because I'm jealous that this will never come to Australia, and even if it does I'll never be able to afford one...

If it's got four seats and a roof it's not a roadster.

That is what's called a "targa top" Elon.

I will forgive you for the roof. The BMW Clown Shoe proves you can make a roadster with a roof.

But four seats means NOT A ROADSTER.

The one I drive 3 days a week through LA traffic when I'm not in my M3. Golf cart handling is a compliment. It also 90+ just fine.

It's still an ugly f@*%er though.

Bmw makes coupes with 4 doors.

Yeah, in Australia we already have a word to describe a car with 4 doors and a boot that opens from the top including the window.

It's a hatchback.

Tesla calling their 4-seat sports car a "roadster" and BMW calling their 4-door gran hatchbacks coupe's is like me putting //M stickers on my M-sport 135i and referring to it as my little "M car".

Actually a pick up would be the hardest vehicle to produce if you want some range.
An electric motor is ideal for a pickup (or even truck/bigrig etc) but they are very inefficient vehicles so they need a huge battery to be practical, and that makes it very expensive.
I estimate to make a pickup with a 250 mile range you'd need twice the battery capacity from a p100d or so.

You really think in just 3 years all those engines will no longer be in production? I'll counter that the N/A boxer 6, V8, V10 or V12 that are slated for production in 2020 are right now going through Q1 pre-production qualification.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
