New OEM Steering wheel or new leather wrap?

The leather on my E93 M3 is cracked and looking to replace it, the rest of the wheel is fine. Just got a quote to hand stitch a new leather wrap with m color thread with quality leather but cost is comparable to getting a new wheel OEM. What would you choose? Thanks!

If you want leather, stick to a new OEM wheel, nothing better than that. If you want alcantara, have Coby rewrap it for you.

I wrapped my own wheel with a leather wrap, pretty impressed with the results especially for the sub $50 price. DIY install, just requires patience.

Bonus is that because it goes over your existing wrap, the wheel gets a bit thicker, and slightly grippier. Looks great too.

Obviously mine is not an M wheel, but you get an idea...

I'd consider one of the Alcantara-wrapped ones that BMW sells as part of the M Performance accessory lineup. Looks awesome and gives extra grip for those spirited driving sessions. :-)

Turner sells them for about $700.

dparm has the right idea—the alcantara would be nice in Miami weather since it won't get as hot as the leather variant. We can source one for you as well if you like

If you're dead set on leather (and sticking with the same wheel), though, a re-wrap would be nice but I'd probably also mix it up rather than doing the same OEM treatment.

They have different color options for the thread/stitching too, so you can do the M colors, or just blue, red, etc.

It's a car-specific kit, comes pre-cut leather, thread (in colors specified), and instructions. Youtube videos can help too.

It's super easy, as long as you have patience to go slow. It will take a few hours!

I got mine from aliexpress for like $35 or something. They have different precut options based on what car / package you have.

Would you mind linking to the actual product that you ordered? That looks great! How long did it take to arrive to Toronto?

Do you have to take the airbag and trim off the wheel?
Do they have Alcantara?
Looks amazing regardless of price.

This is the one I used. Obviously you would order the one for your appropriate wheel (they have a number of different models/options).

No need to remove anything, though it might be a bit easier, it definitely wasn't all that bad doing it with the wheel in place. You will need to dedicate some time though, and exercise some patience

I've uploaded a pic of it midway through the process... that's my wife's dainty hand you see, not mine LOL
I highly recommend outsourcing the labour if possible

Coby has a nice product also and half the price of the OEM striped Alcantara.

Another option would be http://www.dallassteeringwheel.com/sw1.htm

I used them on my 911 which had an absurdly skinny steering wheel. The work they did was top notch.

Not at the moment. But I'll let you know if I have a late-in-life change.

Has anyone seen m0nkey's sense of humor? He's missing it.

Note post #4. I'm a guy. I really don't think that's a picture of a guy. Ali says... "I wrapped my own wheel with.." and then attaches that picture.

*sigh*

never mind.

There was a picture of a pretty girl working on an M3.

What words do you think I read?
