Test drove a M4 on Friday. I wasn't impressed....Lags...sounds like a fart can...little louder on sports mode (I don't know if this is when the sound is pumped in the audio system) ....and I don't like the looks. I wouldn't buy it for 87k.

There is a lot of hubbub about aftermarket exhausts, but it seems to me that BMW already wrung out what they could with the flaps essentially creating a straight pipe with no muffler. I suspect a lot of aftermarket solutions will sound far worse, completing the fart-can image. Anyway, for me induction noise trumps exhaust, which turbo cars can never provide. But for what it's worth, I still want one. |

also some reviews have commented on the sound is not as good. there are a few car reviewers that have not done a M4 that i know will not like the sound. Richard`s comment is one of the stupidest comments of the ages. |

Frankly speaking, in those E9X M3 owners I know, 90% of them changed their exhausts to Akrapovic or others because the original OEM one is too quiet. So for those new F8X M3 owners who don't like the sound of exhaust, they still can upgrade theirs to Akrapovic or BMW Performance to make it sound better.
However, Turbo Inline 6 Engine can't be upgraded to NA V8 Engine. According to International Engine of the Year, BMW is still the winner for its NA performance engine. So it really depends on what you want. E46 M3 (S54: 3.2L - 338hp) = 105 hp/L E9X M3 (S65: 4.0L - 420hp) = 105 hp/L |

Anyone has idea why BMW chose an electric driven exhaust flap as opposed to a vacuum driven one ?
The vacuum driven ones (IE. F430) makes a more distinct sound when it flips open, IE. from volume 5 to 10 in an instant. In any case a vacuum driven valve still sounds monotone. On the S65 during cold start, you can hear the rpm cycle up and down, the 8 ITBs have a boxer tone in it. The idle alone sounds like there is so much activity going on in the engine. The S55 just sounds flat. |

Aren't you glad you got the S65 engine? Specially with top down and I love the sounds when you hit the M button that would makes the car meaner.

Wait Gatorfast, hold up, just a sec. there...
I was pretty sure that the M button was a "push to pass" button that activated the KERS and gave you temporary over boost and an additional 52 hp and 135 lb ft of tq. Can't believe after seven years of production there is still confusion about what the M button does. |

Yeah, I thought the rev matched downshifts do sound louder and more aggressive in sport plus which is what my M button is programmed for in my DCT E92. Is this my imagination? Granted I guess I could get it by programming to sport plus without the M button.
