What are the current options for the OEM 19" wheels? Would I save money getting just tires for those or going for a wheel + tire package in a different size?

"For 19", the Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II comes in the stock sizes. The 255/35R19 and 275/35R19 Blizzak LM60 that had been popular is no longer around. The LM32 replaces it, but the fronts are H rated and the rears are V rated, so it doesn't show up as a matching set on the site. Mixing speed ratings is not ideal, but it beats running without snows in the winter. Pirelli makes a 255/35R19 and 275/35R19 270 Sottozero Serie II. The rear is an Aston Martin OE tire, so again it doesn't show a matching pair." Doing just the tires is a little cheaper in the short term vs doing the wheels, tires, and sensors for a complete package. If you are going to have the car for several winters, will often come out ahead doing the package and not paying for all the dismount/remount. Also your stock wheels will stay nicer if they don't have to handle winter duties.

Awesome, thanks! I just wasn't sure if that edit was up to date.
I'm going to take it that 255/35R19 will only fit on the fronts? Will they also fit on the rears? Quote:

255/35R19 is listed to fit from 8.5" to 10" wide. They will often look a bit stretched if mounting on the upper end of the range, as snow tires often have a narrower tread width than average for a given size.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm on the fence if I should go for a new set of blizzaks in that size from my neighbor.

I'm looking into buying a set of winter wheels from someone local and was wondering if it'll fit. Tried searching around and couldn't find much. Seller said these came off of a 535.
Wheel: ASA A7 Specs: 18x8 ET35 Tires: Bridgestone Blizzaks WS60 Specs: 245/40/18 Thanks!

I've got a set of 255/35/19 rear Blizzak LM-60 that cannot hold a seal at the bead for more than a day. What are my options for rear tires that will fit the 10" ZCP rear that is comparable to the LM-60 that doesn't stretch the tire too much?
...or do I have to buy all new fronts as well?

Hi Ben,
I am moving to Denver, CO in Feb and will need a set of winter tires for my E92 M3 with ZCP wheels. I see from your previous posts, there are a few options for the OEM wheels. Which tires and sizes would you recommend in this situation? Thanks in advance.

Ben, thanks again for your response. I found some 275/45/19 LM-60 on the TR site...a bit taller than I want...do you think it'll affect the ride much if I'm only driving around town and rarely going above 70?

275/45R19 is too tall. 28.7" diameter vs stock OD of 26.3". That's a tire size for an X5, Q7, Cayenne etc.

Sorry, I wanted your input on the difference in these 3 choices. Is one set better on ice/deep snow/more performance oriented? I'm guessing I'd be leaning toward the more 'full time' snow tire, I'd rather have extra traction in snow/ice.

Thanks, looking forward to getting out there! What type of snow setup have you run on the M3 before? I've never spent a winter in Denver, not sure what to expect. I grew up in the mountains of CO, so I've seen winters, but not sure how to compare to the Denver area.
Let me know what you end up going with to replace your Blizzaks, I'll be placing an order in the next month.

Darn. Looks like I'll stick with the narrower winter rims route. Thanks again for the help, Ben. It's much appreciated.

In that size, they are all considered performance winter tires, a blend of winter traction and handling that is still somewhat sporty. The blizzak still seems to hold a little bit of an edge on the snow traction front, but the difference is not huge.

Square set-up at tirerack
Hi, I am new to the winter tire+wheels game and started at the tirerack web site.
After entering my car details (2011 M3 sedan ZCP) and selecting the 18 inch square winter set-up the only tires it shows are 235-40-18... that would just look plain weird. I was expecting 245-40-18 or 255-40-18. Should I just disregard the web site? Thanks. |

I'm in the market for something to tide me through the wet-and-cool Seattle non-summer months. I have a set of M219's, and am thinking about DWS-06 for this. As there's not a 265/40R18 option, what are the thoughts on the ideal setup to run for this? I can go 235/40R18+255/40R18 or possibly 235/45R18+255/45R18. Would the 45 section sidewall be too tall? Any other thoughts for a good performing tire that excels in the wet, and handles occasional snow?
