Sandy and NY\NJ Port Deliveries...

Anyone know how much damage, if any, the port sustained?

Will their be delays due to ancillary damage caused by the storm?

Perhaps I'll call BMW ED to see if they have any info...

Also, before I get blasted for seemingly not caring about the plight of the souls experiencing the aftermath of the Sandy... My hospital sent me to NOLA after Katrina. I was there 5 weeks; from 2 days after Katrina through Hurricane Rita. I understand there is both more suffering and more hard working people working to alleviate said suffering than CNN, et al will ever be able or to choose convey. The media will not get the story, whatever it is, right.

I also encourage any who have the skills, to help... to go and be a human being. Help... don't wish you would have. You will be forever changed.

I can't answer your question about damages to the port but I do want to thank you for your time down here in New Orleans. We were brought to our knees by Katrina but through the help of people like you we have pulled through. NY, NJ and all those affected by Sandy will do the same though that may be hard to envision at this point...

Truly, no thanks required. I was doing what I was born to do and I am lucky I was able to help. The people I met (good and bad), make NOLA an amazingly unique place. Glad to hear you stayed and are doing well.

Just found out the Turandot (the ship my car currently calls home), is now headed for Baltimore rather then NY. I have no idea what this means as there isn't a VDC in Balto. Maybe my car will be offloaded in South Carolina. .

BMW does use ports outside of those where the VPC's are located (NJ and SC). My car landed in Brunswick, GA for example. I have heard of others on this forum coming through Baltimore as well so not unusual. If the VPC in NJ is offline then there may be a backlog at Baltimore which could cause some minor delays...

Some information I found while tracking the Turandot:

Quote:
Latest update from BMW NA

Jersey City Vehicle Distribution Center
• These facilities are currently without power and will remain
closed, Wednesday, October 31. Utilities are working to restore
power, however, they are unable to determine when power will return
due to the widespread affects of the storm.
Quote:
NJ has been replaced with Baltimore as port of entry.
Assuming the cars will be processed at the VPC in Baltimore.

I suspect there will be trucking-related delays as well (for some). Getting through NYC is going to be very difficult for the next few days/weeks.

Certainly true about NYC delays but OP in is Maryland so should not impact his delivery...

Everyone, I appreciate all the info!

I have an email in to my SA, so hopefully I'll have something to report shortly.

And as side note, I did see a story about 16 Fikser Karma's catching fire after being flooded at Port Newark. Have no idea where that is in relation to BMW's VPC in NJ but if the issue is flooding and not just power, the VPC could be down for a while...

Actually, there is a VDC in Baltimore. They share one with Mercedes. It doesn't seem to be too popular, but I've heard it can process 400 cars a day. So maybe there's hope...

Have you not been watching the news? The majority of Manhattan is without power..subway tunnels are still flooded, gas shortages, NJ is even harder hit..I would def bank on a delay...no question

Have you not read the OP's posts? He is clearly aware of what's going on in NY and NJ... Boat has been redirected to Baltimore and he's simply trying to get a feel for the impact on his expected delivery...

Yes I did, its just that it seems silly when the answer is obvious

No I cannot, and neither can anyone else..that is why the thread is moot..

Now if you are just anxious and wanted to let us know....I could understand that

Considering I live in Baltimore I believe the wait for the car might be less then without the storm. I didn't know Baltimore had a VDC before starting this thread. For all knew the ship might have been dropping off only Volvos in Balto.

As far as being anxious, I believe that is a given (considering all the "wait is killing me threads," posted here since the forums inception), so hardly a startling revelation on your part.
