Thinking about replacing m3 with 997 Carrera S

I think you've said it there. You have a period of time to where you can enjoy a car that you have always dreamed of. Make the switch. Once the little ones come along you could always swap back for an e90, or by then the next gen m3.

Dude, you really need to compare the 997.1 and 997.2 back to back, there are differences in the suspension setup that really made me sit up and take notice. I would never own a 997.1, but a .2 should be on the cards sometime.

I have also found from personal experience how much of a difference suspension bushings can make on an older 911. I had an experience in my friend's 85 Carrera. To the point where I would consider owning a 964 rs or even something older, modified to hell and back.

Someone on this board offered to share their experiences, you should take them up on the offer. And by all means test drive them before you start counting the dollar bills...

I've also considered the Cayman S

I'll just have to go do some test drives and decide in the coming weeks/months

i just got a 95 993. i may sell the m3, we'll see, but it's in transit at the moment.
i say get the 993 over the 997 but that's just me since i did that lol

As an only car the M3 is great. It will never be as engaging as any Porsche sports car, but you would never think that anyway seeing how great Porsche's are when you drive them and all the little details they do that no one else does. I think a Porsche sports car is far superior when it comes to a weekend/track car seeing as they are so much more capable straight out of the factory, and especially so if you have a GTx.
I think the Porsche seems like the logical car to get once you get bored of the M. It seems to be a very big trend, M car ---> Porsche. I would look for a 997.2S/4S/GTS since they are all very much a step up or two over the M3.

I was seriously going to do the same thing and get 997s convertible but I chose to save some money and get something else so I can put some money on a house. Eventually I Will return to 997s or the new M3.

This is indeed the case.

I enjoyed having 2 different S2000's more than the current M3. It could be due to me liking a harsher riding car.

Everytime I try to forget about pursuing the 997S, I see one every morning while walking out the door

I own both cars and everytime I get in the m3 I fall in love all over again. The m3 is an amazing car and even the Porsche doesn't come close to it when it comes to refinement and build quality. The engine in the m3 feels like a machine gun. It's a lot more responsive than the flat six in the 911 and more exciting. I have the generation 2 c2s with 385hp and a power to weight ratio that's slightly better than my m3 but still, everyone who sits in both of my cars feel that my m3 is much faster and more exciting but if I had to give up one, it would def be the m3. It just doesn't feel as special as a 911. Even though in a lot of respects it feels like a better car, it just doesn't feel as special. The feelin you get sitting in a 911 is one of a kind. A small, sports car that sits low to the ground, with sooooo much grip it's unbelievable. The handling in the 911 is much more enjoyable than the m3 and just the overall ownership experience. You just feel special driving a 911 a feeling that can not be replicated in the m3. Also, the seats in the m3 suck. The high seating position in the m3 feels very awkward. I wish bmw designed the seats in a way that allowed a lower seating position. They just feel too high, like your sitting in an suv. Both cars are amazing though, you can't go wrong with either car.

Maybe. I've always been a fan of the GT3RS but most people just don't have the time to dedicate it to the track. The Turbo is still very track capable out the factory and lets be honest, unless you've been racing for years, you're not going to be able to push that Turbo to the limits anyway.

If I had the money, I'd go with both. If I only had enough for one, I'd definitely take the Turbo.
