I don't get why anyone wants to turn a beautiful car like this!? station wagons are so ugly IMO.

A little M wagon for the nanny. That's special.

I'm getting the feeling that the current 4th generation M3 is going to be around a lot longer than BMW thought or hoped. I too hope so.

My question is, why not? I'd pick an M3 wagon over a sedan and vert for sure.
That is an amazing bulid! For family guys, this is a truly do it all hybrid vehicle in terms of space and performance.

It's really cool to see something like this materialize not from the BMW factory, gotta love it when people use the money no object mentality to build a cool car!

It is too much of a "Pussy" car for this type of Winter where the X5 AWD with all snow or all rain tires shines plus its high and you can plow over things where my M3 inches or crawls over things and is horrible in the snow/ice. To me its a "fad" and folks like it because we can't get it here in the US. That's why we don't see it in the US because it would have epic fail sales rates just like an E89 Z4MC. Upper BMW management said it would not sell just like something like this, even though we all said we would buy one on the forums.

There would be absolutely no reason for me to own one. I have an SUV for snow/ice duty and an E92 M3 for the streets and dry weather. No room for a RWD hatchback sedan.
I was reading through a few pages of this and have to agree on this statement. Wagons are pretty cool in terms of the hunched look but in reality they would suck in comparison to an SUV in inclement weather. I lived in Chicago midwest winters for over 20+ years so you can say I've seen it all and I would never drive a wagon over an SUV. I can just plow through snow, hop curbs and even jump a median if needed in an sport SUV like the M X5 that would leave the wagon crippled.

I am very impressed with this build however as it's his money and pushing the envelope is what it's about! The look is awesome and if I had the extra cash I would build one too! Builds like this really show how creative the human spirit can be to achieve things when money is not an object.

Great job, I love it!

Sadly this type of car will not sell well in general and it seems BMW upper management agrees.

A wagon can hold as much as an SUV (comparing apples to apples - 3-series to X3 and 5-series to X5) with the added benefit of the performance of a car. SUV's by default are a compromise in performance due to their weight and high center of gravity.

Now as far as handling snow.... That is a RWD vs. AWD discussion. A rear wheel drive car is certainly not going to handle the snow as well as any all wheel drive vehicle (assuming the tires are the same). The ground clearance an SUV provides is not at all necessary. An M3 wagon at stock ride-height with all-wheel drive would be fantastic in the snow. Even better than an SUV because it's lighter, stops quicker, and changes direction quicker. How do I know? I spent my entire life in MN and WI with tons of snow. I have had Audi sedans and wagons plus SUV's. I never once had an issue in snow with an all-wheel drive sedan or wagon. Albeit they were not slammed like my M3 (and yours). The SUV ground clearance is really only necessary off-road. Which is the biggest joke.... 99% of the SUV's on the road will NEVER go off-road during their entire existence. SUV's are far more of an illogical fad invented by Americans who think wagons aren't cool. As you know, wagons sell far better than SUV's in other parts of the world. My theory is that Americans love for SUV's started along with the bigger is better concept we see in houses, and food. We Americans like everything over sized... which has resulted in the huge weight problem we have here. I digress...
And this is assuming you even need AWD. I live in SC, where it snows maybe one day of the year. And if it does snow, everything stops, including work. So for the other 364 days, I got a car that is functional AND handles well (yes we all know the E70 is a great handling rig, but not compared to an E91 with M suspension).

You have no idea how bad I'd love to have this in my garage:

P.S. I have an SUV btw, so it's not like I have anything against it. But I got mine just because it's a cheap beater.

Yes, but RS6 is alot more expensive! Its not around the same price of the C63 touring. And they didn't bother to bring the C class touring here either.

At first I was horrified, but then I got to thinking ... If this bad boy came in a stick shift, 4wd version ... That would be the ULTIMATE Tahoe machine!! (short of a helicopter of course)

What kind of dreary, horrible family guy life must you have that a station wagon is your dream car?

We get it - you don't like the car. Enough taking pot shots at everyone who is a fan though; don't you think? You do sound more than just a little overly uncomfortable with the idea, and the excessive negativity is beginning to really feel awkward. A bit like the guy who shows up at a car meet and has nothing but criticism for everyone's rides.
