am i being shanked?

hi, i've been a spectator for the most of my time here on this board, but i'm posting today just to see if i'm getting ignored by my dealer.

I placed a deposit for an e92 m3 back in april, 2007 and got the #2 spot on the dealer's list. When the U.S. pricing was released I was out of the country for about a month and i called my CA and he assured me that i had a week 10 build (first week of march) and told me to stop by the dealer as soon as i got back so that i can make my order. This weekend i made a visit to the dealer and my CA said that he couldn't put in the order just yet because nothing about the m3 was up on his system. I'm a little suspicious about that because I have read of some people on this forum who have already placed their orders. My reservation is for MSRP so I'm just wondering if my CA is shanking me. When's the earliest build date you guys who've already placed orders have?

Sounds a bit sketchy. I just received a production number yesterday and it is in the system. I know there are many on this site whose cars have already been built and are on the way here.

You are being shanked--unless your dealer is a really really small one. I ordered (at MSRP) from a small dealer: put a deposit down the first week of December, locked down the order right before Christmas, for a Feb 5 production. Turns out production was started 3 weeks earlier (Jan 15) and as of today the car is sitting at the port in Bremerhaven waiting to be loaded onto a ship. Although people claim wait lists that are 15-20 deep, all you need to do is email several dealers and you're bound to find one that has something. You may have to drive or fly to get it, but that's part of the fun. Service quality will be the same at your local dealer regardless of where you buy.

You question really has little to do with build date as far as I can tell, so you may want to change your topic title.

All you really need to know is whether your dealership has received its first (and for your case, second) allocation yet. As far as I know they need to have an allocation to actually place an order, but at this point that is the only thing that would be holding them back. If I recall, there were posts to the forum about people who were first on the waitlist with smaller dealerships but could not order yet.

If that checks out then you are probably getting taken for a ride.

I am #2 in a new small dealership. My order was finally place in the BMW system on Monday. If you dealer had told you, "we can't put an order because we have not received our allocations", I'd say fine. But if he telling you, "we can't put an order because nothing is known about the M3", that's BS.

Yea seriously, if he said that then hes playing you for a fool. I would find and call up dealers around your area and see what the situation is like with others. Dont play his game.

Even I am second in the list at a small dealership. I keep checking every week but he says he didnt get an allocation yet. He even showed me in his system.

Yep, there are other dealers out there with open slots. I just turned down a second week in February build date for a sedan (changed my mind, want the M-DKG now), and another dealer called and said they had an open March build date for a sedan.

It might be because they dont have allocation. Official March allocations seem to be messed up right now ... remember if your car is being built in March, that doesn't necessarily mean it was an original March allocation. My car for example was a Feb allocation, but got pushed to March due to 2MK.
