Anyone swap an alternator on an E9X before?
So I pulled the trigger and ordered a high amperage alternator for my E9X M3.
Reasons are a few, but: I am running an early 2007.07 production E92 M3, this was before they upgraded the alternators to 180AMP. Mine is 140AMP. I have a high powered sound system. 900W RMS. I believe my current alternator is on its way out and I noticed my idle tends to bump up quite frequently. Battery is next to new. I ran the tool32 diagnostics on the IGR (they are in MSS60.prg btw) and pretty much as soon as the car is turned on IGR enters the IGR-Medium state. I also have quite a few after market devices in my E92 M3. So anyways, an upgraded 220AMP alternator is on its way. --- I have taken a look at the DIS documentation. The process looks straight forward. Remove a few pieces blocking access from the top (mainly airbox and fan). Remove under body protection to get your hands in there to disconnect the cabling. Pull up and out, and your set. Anyone ever do an alternator swap on the E9X M3? Any gotachas I need to worry about? I would rate my mechanical skills at about 5/10. I just recently did a pulley swap myself, and it went pretty well (aside from my banged up hands). PS: This is what I'm going by: http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/3_se...ernator_(s65)/ |
