New purchase M3 Supercharged. Have some Questions. Ess S/c people can you help?
Hey guys, New to the m3 scene but not to Bmw. Just purchased a 2008 e92 ESS S/c m3. Im not yet sure if its a 625 or 650. It has a snow performance meth kit.
Here is a link to the original owner a few years ago. He did all the mods. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...8+black+m3+ESS So had some questions i was hoping you guys can shed some light on me. The car doesn't feel like it pulls very hard and the S/C is not as loud as another m3 i drove. I don't know what tune is on it and i don't have the ESS cable. I Emailed tom @ eas and Roman@ESS For help on getting a cable to diagnose/ red and delete codes. What should i look for? Is there anyway to log to check how things are? I will get the car on a dyno soon. It doesn't have a boost gauge. |

I'd visit Alex Noll at www.abrhouston.com to have him give it the once over.

Measure the pulley, should give you an idea of the boost level you should be seeing. I haven't seen a lot of success with meth on the forum. Have you tried the car with the meth disabled.

Sometimes the pulley will have the size etched into it. Or like mentioned above buy a small caliper and measure it. If it's a 650, the main pulley will be an ESS and not oem. Does the seller not know what kit he had? The pics in your other thread are pretty nice.

Bought the car from a local dealership. They didn't even know why it had 2 oil reservors. Fid 48 hours of straight research tracking down the older 2 owners by googling vin numbers and mods and found the older listing. Sellers don't reply to P.M think they moved from the BMW world. The car was wrapped blue. One of the listing claims its a 650 kit. Another claims its a 625. Which pulley am i took at? I have not figured out how to play around with the meth controller to disable and even if i do would i need to retune?

1) check air filter to see f its dirty
2) slap on a boost guage to see how much boost you are making 3) change plugs but I would definitely try it with the methanol, maybe the methanol is flooding the car

Also, that's most likely a 625 kit by the looks of the BOV. Also can look at the pullies. Thr 650 uses a 7rib setup so the crank pulley, waterpump pulley, and alternator pulley are non-oem

take a flash light and see that all of the velocity stacks are inside the throttle boddies, open your window and see if you can hear any fluttering sounds from the blow off valve.

This is an ESS kit, didn't even see a BOV valve hehe. from what i was reading it recirculates unlike the AA kit where that has 3 BOV. My car is super quiet for a S/C car or the exhaust is that loud -_- not sure..

It's a bypass valve not a BOV and yes it does recirculate hence it's quiet nature vs other kits. The bypass valve is connected to the manifold but I'm sure you know that.

Not to mention that a blow-off valve on a DCT M3 would get annoying after the first 10 minutes, which is why the diverter valve is more ideal.

It's a BOV, it's just recirculated. Functions in the exact same manner, the extra air just goes back to the intake instead of under the hood. BOV, BPV, and DVs can all be used interchangably for the most part.
And yes, open vent BOVs can get really annoying on this platform; they all have weak springs and release way too easily lol. My Tial Q was fun for about a day lol

I agree, we have had a few cars in that have run open to atmosphere BOV systems and they can be annoying. I think perception is that the car will sound like a turbo car if a BOV is used which is not the case.
