M3 vs M235i spin
Out for a run with a mate who just bought a M235i:
At rolling start from 20-25mph it was very even with the M3 (E90) leaving the M235 a meter or two up to 62mph. So pretty much according to spec 4.7s vs 4.8s (both DCT/auto). Continuing the M3 pulled away a little bit further but nothing significant up to 125mph. Above here I'd say the M235 was even up to 145-isch where we stopped. Bit surprising as I thought this is where the M3 should take away. Actually the M3 had less challenge to keep the RS5 behind when comparing the other month. General impression after a short test is that the M235 is exactly what it's sold to be; good balance although with "soft" chassis, proper steering, lots of torque without need to worry about what gear you're in, fair throttle response - Very Sporty all over. IMO very good looks on top. I found the M235 to be a very sweet ride no doubt, and even more so compared to the investment (and fuel consumption!). It doesn't have the rock solid chassis, nor the sexy snarl/exhaust/wining sound or the violent gear shift and precise steering of an M3. Fair enough, it's not suppose to. Yes, it's a pretty sweet car, and I desperately wish the front end design they used for the M235i was used on the M3/4 instead. Ah well.
There was a comparo between the M235i, the M4 and an Alpina, and the little sibling took it home. http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1026278 Bang for the buck, can't be beat. There's something intangible about the "real" ///M, though, that makes the premium worth it if you can swing it. |

I use my M3 as DD around the year. In my case came from a 550i Msport, had 335i M earlier, so wanting more the M3 was the way to go.
I don't find time to track or even use the car' full potential which according to some is a vaste. However for me the chassies and steering feel and precision still gives loads of driving pleasure, while the temperament and sound is exciting every day of the week. There might come a day I get tired of filling the tank, when for instance a M235i could be a worthy alternative. |
