GT-R vs M3

i pose a question to you m3 guys.

if both cars come in around the same price range 55k-60k

which car would you choose and why?

obvioulsy the GT-R would be the better performer with a TT AWD.

would you still choose the BMW for the name or what? you cant tell me because of heritage because the GTR has just as much if not more race proven heritage.

either way 2008/2009 is going to be an awesome year for performance cars.. im excited

GTR wont be in the same price range. At least not the TT version (we may not even get any other version in the US). Prices have already been estimated to be in the Porsche range of 80-90K. Nissans target is Porsche and not the M3.

If price were not a factor I would have to drive both to make a decision.

"The GTR is expected to be available in three different model levels. Base level will be a 480hp twin-turbo V6 engine in the standard base GTR as well as the middle level GTR V-Spec. They will be priced at roughly $57,000 and $67,000 respectively. The range topping EVO version with the same VQHRTT engine as the standard and V-Spec models gets a power increase up to 530hp while losing 220 lbs. from the body for an unbelievably inexpensive price of $94,000."

Where did you get this information? I, too, was under the impression the base GTR was going to cost well above 70k.

I would have to drive both and decide if money is not a factor.
If money is a factor, then I will have to consider relative prices as well as relative performance.

I'd test drive them both and then decide.

But either way, you have to remember that the new EVO or STI will probably perform similar to the new M3 for less money as well. But that doesn't mean that people will go out and buy those cars instead.

This info was from a random Japanese magazine and the prices were converted to US dollars. In Japan there will be 3 versions but no one knows what versions or version the US will get. I doubt very very much that the base price in the US will be 57K....

Here is the autoblog article from which he quoted...http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/10/n...odels-surface/

Get real guys! If you buy the M3 you buy it because you want a BMW M, not because of HP per $ !!!

^You might be right but I am sticking by the fact that the GTR is going to have a base price close to 70K in which case the HP per $ factor is a little null at that point.

Well to expand, it's because it's a quality, fast and enjoyable car is why i bought the E46 and am on the list for the E92. That said I have deposits on both the M3 and GT-R, and with the GT-R rumored beating the 911TT and GT3 on the 'ring im thinking there's more there than just some high-HP straight line dragster. My bet is the GT-R will probably sway me away from the new M3. We'll see....

Yep the current 997 twin turbo. That's been Nissan's benchmark during all the track testing.

Naive statement.
That shows you are more interested in a status symbol, not a performer.

LOL

If it's all about performance, go buy a motorbike!!

With a car - especially in this price range - it's not just about performance, it should also be of good quality and look cool. IMO "rice bowls" never had something you could call "design"...

My main concern with paying that much for a Nissan is that you still have to service it at a Nissan dealership. You gotta wait in line with everyone else and their Altima's. Kind of the same problem with z06. At the end of the day, you still service it at a chevy dealership with all the other Tahoes, Suburbans, etc. They're not really known for having great customer service. At least we have the free maintenance program with BMW.
