good business schools across the country?

Hey guys,

I'm a senior in High school (no i dont have an M3...yet ) and am in the process of applications.

I'm just wondering what some good business schools are around the country to do some research on.

I prefer one with a nice campus too if that changes any recommendations.

Disclaimer: this is just for research on them...

Thanks guys!

University of Chicago (Booth), MIT (Sloan), NYU (Stern)

That's my list. I'm an economist FWIW, so I'm partial.

BTW, hope you have stellar grades. The schools listed above are damn near impossible to get into as a freshman. Here's a secret: if you go to a decent school as a freshman undergraduate and perform well (I'm talking GPA >3.7) with a full load, it is much easier to transfer to the above schools (or any school for that matter). Freshman drop out rate is higher than most would think.

well right now I i have a 3.7 and i go to a private school (NCJHS) with a load of community service, partake in 3+ clubs in school, and a few other extra curriculars.

I'm just wondering what my options are...i don't plan on attending MIT because I would never get accepted. Im talking a little less than amazing

Why do you have "Drives: 2008 m3/IS250" if you don't have an M3? This is getting tiresome.

In that case you may also want to consider some sort of dual major to supplement the business degree.

Maybe it's just a temporary sign of the times but there are a lot of business degrees out there and it can be difficult for someone with no other credentials to find the kind of job they are expecting unless they are one of a handful of top graduates from a handful of top schools.

My decision was between U of Chicago(Booth) and Carnegie Mellon(Tepper).

You asked for business schools so thats something you have to take into consideration. Chicago does not have a business school. It has the best economics program in the country, but that is the only business program it offers. You have to be sure you want to be an economics major before you go there.

Carnegie Mellon has a very good business school and you can choose from almost any business major. This is one of the reasons i came here. And also because of football.

Id say with a 3.7 these schools would be pushing it unless you had a sport to get you in. Or unless you have a 2200+ on the SATs. Then its possible

I think USC would be a perfect fit for you. Its in state and Marshall is one of the best programs in the country. Also has great girls and sports. If i lived in cali i sure as hell would try to go there. UCLA isnt far behind either.

for your MBA, I'd say stay in SoCal and go to UCLA :P

I'm too tired to really contribute right now though; sorry.

Lehigh University (Bethlehem Pa) is usually in the top 20 and I enjoyed their business school quite much when I was not intoxicated.

I also looked at Carnegie Mellon as well as Bucknell.

it depends on how high your SAT's are.

no clue how scoring goes when its out of 2400.

3.7 GPA from a private school, you could take it w/ a grain of salt.
Some schools 3.7 is the median. and some 3.7 is standout. class rankings are a better determination.

FWIW Uni of Illinois urbana champaign has a top 5 accounting program if you're looking into accounting.

Wharton at UPENN.

I work on wall street.....do what you have to do to get into a top 5 b-school. If I could do it over again I would have tried for an ivy league .....knowing what I know now...albiet I went to a good school....but its extremely tough to get front office/IB/S&T jobs if you dont have the mighty Ivy and or MIT, Stanford, etc on the resume.

I working towards my CFA right now....so hopefully with that and my work experience I can get into a top 5 MBA program.

Good luck dude.

You will be much better off not going to a business school. Try something that takes some effort, that is the only way to consistently see results. Unless you are taking over your parents company or something and just need a no brainer education.

econ majors are in bigger demand than business students right now. you should major in econ and then minor in BA or something.

Who cares about undergrad business school. To say you graduated from undergrad at Stanford is impressive but still not going to get you your dream job right out of school. But it would help you tremendously to get into the MBA program at a Top 5 B-school.
Use the undergrad as a platform for getting your MS or MBA. It will also help you get a decent job out of school where your new employer could pay for your grad school. Well at least that was the route I took to get my MBA.

I have MBA yet my undergrad was Electrical Engineering. I worked in engineering while I studied for my MS in Engineering. The job experience probably helped in my admission to B-school. All my degrees came from Top 25 schools but unfortunately none are Top 5.

If you can get into Top 5 B-school...you must be doing things right. Being on this forum is not the route to MIT or Harvard.

I'm going to Uconn Stamford for my MBA, but may decide to switch, although unlikely.
