Cool Has to be due to gas prices, and high price...

Who cares if the guy is 17? We are all BMW owners on here and there is no need to rant on him because of his age. Everyone has their own opinion on why they think the M3s on the Irvine lot are still there. And his happens to be because they are not DCT.

Anyways most likely not because it's not DCT but because of the economy and SO CAL gas prices sky rocketing. Plus according to one post the vehicles are fully loaded meaning a high price on the new M3.

And whoever said not many people know how to drive stick that's why not many of them are sold is a bunch of bull. I am pretty sure most people who order the DCT have or had a Manual transmission or else they would not appreciate the technology they had chosen. And MT like the M3s is easier to use than most old cars. IMHO if you never drove a MT then it will be harder to appreciate the DCT for its fast shifts. But most people still know how to drive stick, it is not a lost art, and most enthusiasts still have a MT vehicle in their garage.

I have bought cars with MTs exclusively my whole life because they outperformed automatics. Now with the M-DCT the MT has fallen from that status. I buy whatever performs the best. I would choose a MT over the DSG in Audi's and VW's.

i dont get how anyone can really make qualified statements about how skilled the drivers are that are buying dct. i doubt they take data and ask if they know how to drive stick well. I do feel that DCT would be useful for those who deal with a lot of traffic, and I also figure that a good amount of those getting it aren't proficient at stick but still want an M3. What I do think is interesting is that so many bmw fans dog the c63 for its transmission but still find DCT to be fine. Buying DCT because of gas prices has got to be the stupidest thing ever, and most people do NOT know how do drive stick if you are in the US.

Yeah but the C-class isn't MB's main car, the S-class is their bread and butter. And the C63 is a lot more limited in numbers than the M3.

I think BMW messed up with 6mt sedans. Thus, the overload on Sedans. Once the DCT comes out in the sedans I think there will be better balance compared to the coupes.

The stupidest thing ever would be buying MT because of gas prices.

not sure where you are going with this, but a 2700 option that doesnt really help with mpg (perhaps minimally) doesnt make too much sense to me.

We do know that DCT has better gas mileage than MT. Like hybrid cars, the price difference likely overshadows the gas savings.

However, on the sole criteria of gas prices, it would be more stupid to buy MT as it gets worse gas mileage. That is where I was going with that, which is a subtle retort to your earlier hyperbolic statement. I would agree with the idea that choosing DCT over MT solely based in gas prices is not all that bright, but clearly the opposite is worse.

It seems as the first wave of cars were'nt planned out too well. The manual sedans all showed up at $70k with manuals, appearantly somebody at BMW messed up their planning. Then the DCT look to be in demand.

Remember the M5? Everybody complained there was no MT. Now BMW launches the E90 M sedan with manual and they're sitting around...

If you look at the sedans sitting they're mostly loaded up with options. I've been thinking to myself all along $70k is just too much for this car. Then the way the packages are put together is frustrating as they force you to load up the car.

On ebay right now there's a loaded up sedan for $4500 under MSRP! What's deceiving is the deep discounts are on the loaded sedans. For somebody like me I get all excited (my budget is $55k MAX) thinking I can get $4500 off MSRP. However those deep discounts are off the loaded cars sitting on dealer lots not off a base car + leather + EDC. I doubt I'm going to find a $58k M3 with $4500 off. Appears the "value" right now is to get a discount off a loaded sedan off the dealer lot. Darn, maybe I'll thinking about spending a few extra thousand, as you get alot more for your $$$.

All in all, I hope BMW will adjust production to meet demands. I want to pick up an 08 late summer for a discount, hopefully they'll slow down the cars coming out so the resale doesnt take too big of a hit the first 2 years.

I have to admit, the "appeal" is much cooler when the cars are in demand.

Take a look at the M5\M6. Poor resale and major incentives right now.

But... what happens if the cars aren't selling, then it comes time to order more? Is the dealer going to order 10 more M3's when they cant sell the ones they have in stock?
