M Performance Exhaust

Just wanted to say that I'm loving the sound this exhaust makes. Pretty much everything that people have said about it on the forums is true. Quiet when you want it, but when you step on the gas, you release a monster. Shout out to Robert Tan at EAS and the two guys that were working on my car. Thank you for a quick and great job.

Just the rear section. Robert said that one of the best sounding exhausts systems that he's heard is the M perf exhaust coupled with macht schnell xpipe. I haven't heard it, but if someone has the set-up, they should post it.

I have a 2013 that had the MPE thrown in and at first I was skeptical over how much better it would sound.

Under load around 3600-4000rpm there is this hollow exotic sound that I have not heard before. Bearing in mind I had a 08 M3 which had some custom exhaust on it.

I'm thinking about pairing my MPE with a X-Pipe and now I worry that the hollow exotic sound would diminish with rasp.

From what I have read so far on this forum is that MPE with an X-pipe does not sound too good, very raspy .

...however, with downpipes

Spent several days on searching previously discussed threads and that seems to be the general consensus.

I might consider pairing it up with a Akra X pipe with some custom adaptor to pair it with MPE or go with Challenge Sport with 2x HFC and see if they will elevate the sound slightly without too much rasp.

I did watch a few Youtubes with Eisenmann Sport paired with Challenge Street. It doesn't sound too raspy but then again the sound on youtube is a lot different to listening in person.

It seems that most feedback on free'd up X-pipe will almost certainly induce a raspy tone.

I have MPE too, i wanna try Active Autowerks High Flow Cats. i have tried test pipes & let me tell you, you won't like the sound, at first you'll love it because it's loud & everything. but the rasp it created was annoying and it wasn't what i wanted. that's why i went stock x-pipe with MPE, but i still want more sound. i never heard MPE with High Flow cats.

Yes, it sounds very raspy, I had a MPE and tried to pair it with several x-pipes and sounded extremely raspy, you will loose that hollow exotic sound

The M Performance exhaust is an excellent high quality exhaust IMHO, the sound is truly intoxicating! And one thing I’ve noticed is the longer you have it the richer the sound gets, I’ve never heard another exhaust that sounds like it!

So true, the uniqueness of the sound is due to the very pricey Inconel alloy, which no other exhaust cheaper than $7.5k has. Though expensive at $3.3k-$3.5, it is a great value for what you get materials wise and experience wise.

Bu..bu..but you could have saved a ton of money and just got the OEM exhaust mod and have a better sound. Sorry for the inevitable post, thought I'd just get it out of the way.

Sound is very subjective and while the OEM exhaust mod sounds very good and is a great bang for the buck, the MPE IMO sounds much better. Having heard both side by side, the MPE has a much more exotic, refined sound.

I agree too. That hollow howl of the MPE is unique. I think the thin walled Inconel plays a big role in that tone.

I have been fully satisfied with my Eisenmann Sport but really want to give the MPE a try...

Any MPE owners out there feeling the other way around?

The E. Sport has more more bass but isn't as loud as the MPE when you get on it. The E. Sport would be my choice over the MPE only if I planned on doing a cat delete.

3,700 for an exhaust with no power gains? Just get the ESS full for the same price.

comments like these are about as old as thread lauding the MPE.

1) MPE can be purchased for a lot cheaper than $3700.

2) anyone who goes for the MPE are well aware that there are no performance gains. people who go for the MPE are going for it because of it's unique sound and the comfort of knowing they have an OEM part.

either that appeals to you or it doesn't.

As mentioned, new they go for 3200

And the gains are about 15-20 hp, which isn't exactly going to transform a car.

Plus, the ess sounds nothing like the mpe, which IMO has a much more unique sound that fits the m3 perfectly.

The ess sounds like just another car and many exhausts sound very similar.

Each option has their unique benefits

I think 15-20hp is a bit optimistic. There is a power gain, however, I have heard more like 8-9hp. BMW does not advertise this, because that kind of power gain is difficult to consistently replicate on a dyno. My guess is that BMW does want to be hit with any kind of potential legal issues if it doesn't show up on a particular person's dyno pull.
