'08 TPMS vs. '11 TPMS

Quick question in looking at buying new wheels for my '08 E90. Do 2011 TPMS work for a 2008? From what I am reading and finding, it appears that the part number is different, and that a 2011 TPMS in a 2008 would not work properly. Is this a correct conclusion?

I did some searching on the forums, and on google, and was not able to find a 100% for sure statement, and was looking to clear this up. Thanks in advance.

no 2011 will not work on 2008.

I have a 2008 and recently tried some ITM sensors from ebay ( ithink it was about 130$ for all 4) and so far all good they register and work.

Just for reference here are the part numbers for TPMS for both models:

2008 M3: 36 23 6 798 726

2011 M3: 36 10 6 856 227

A different part # means that they will not fit.

As you said, it will not work. I got a spare set if you want to buy some (for an 08).

For the record:

08 and 09 sensors are interchangeable, but do not work with 2010 and up.

2010-2013 are interchangeable, but do not work with 08-09.

*this is specific to the U.S. market. I expect most places will be similar, but the U.S. market is what I can specifically vouch for.
