Would you trade your M3 for an 1M?
Thinking of getting rid of the 1M to get into a M3. Wondering if there were people out there who would be willing to make this trade.

Not sure if I'd say "never", but certainly "not at this moment".

I would never trade for a 1M , but only for the reason that it's too small and not that pretty but I could deal with an engine like the 1m in a M3 body ! 450ft of torque can't be that bad !

Pretty certain I wouldn't, but that's largely due to the fact that I LOVE my M3, my NA V8, and the size and usability of four doors.
That being said, when the 1M was first released, I was curious and gave a local dealership a call to see if I could test drive theirs. I was flatly refused. When I mentioned I had an M3 and would truly be tempted if the 1M rocked, they still said no. Made my choice much easier. At this point in time, I'm way more interested in driving the Active E and sampling one-pedal driving (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/au...pagewanted=all ) than I am driving a 1M. Though, that may reflect how bad dealerships ruin things; not my lack of interest in the 1M. Finally -- I don't get your post. You're wondering if you want an M3. But the way you answer that question is to ask if people would trade for a 1M? My humble advice: there are much better ways to answer your question.

I'm intent on enoying the S65's sound for as long as I can. Going into this car, I didn't think the engine note would be the ONE thing I'd be so passionate about, and I ignored all of the various threads that talked about the standard vs. premium radio, and how it didn't matter becuse all you'd ever want to do is listen to the engine.
Well, almost 15K miles in, ALL I do, is slow down enough to where I can go WOT for a second and get back up to speed while listening to that intake growl. And when the M perf exhauist heats up, I get that great resonance right between 3.5-4K rpm. This makes the 120 mi daily round trip a pleasure. So, sadly no, as much as I love the 1M, I'm enjoying the M3 with its S65 for a little while longer. |

1M is definately cool and will likely hold its value very well, but it is not as fast or as practical as the M3 and in the long run the turbos will likely be more of a liability than benefit. I would still have considered one as it is such a special car, but I wanted usable back seats

I would. Although not as fast but its much more unique and rare like the Z4MC which is another BMW M car better than the standard E92 M3.

I wouldn't mind. I love driving my friend's 1m around! Both equally fun in their own ways in my opinion.
