Okay, just to summarise (Please correct me if I have misunderstood)

-It would be possible to place orders for an MY 2010 E92 M3 in around end of July or beginning of August.
-The MY 2010 cars will have the SAME lights front and rear as MY 09 cars. No-one (at least no-one on this thread) knows if there will be other changes.
-There will be a change, LCI, which will happen around wk.10 or mid. March.

So, two questions:
1.) Does LCI have something to do with front and rear lights?
2.) If they're changing it around about wk.10 of 2010, am I correct in assuming that the orders for these cars (post-LCI) will be mid Jan 2010?

I have my finger on the button to place an order for an M3 and I was basically between an AW or Dakar Yellow 'edition' model or a Space Grey non-edition until this LCI stuff came along!!

ANy clarification will be much appreciated.

Thx. I too was in the dark about the meaning of this acronym: so many arcane ones on the board.

FWIW to all interested in what an LCI can entail, which is not necessarily restricted to cosmetic changes...

The following are specifics of the LCI for BMWs 5-Series from a couple of years back.

Quote:

Summary of changes:
– new front bumper* / kidney grille / headlight clusters / fog-lights
– new side rocker panel (sill panel)
– new rear bumper* / rear lamp units / inclusion of number plate surround trim / smaller exhaust cut-outs
– new centre console design with more storage
– new interior door panel design
– new engines or increased power / reduced fuel consumption / emissions
– new automatic transmission design / new sport automatic transmission
– enhanced specification
– new wheels / paint colours / upholsteries / options
– enhanced iDrive graphics / new screen layouts
– autonomy of double kidney grille is highlighted by individual enclosure
– air inlet with modified contour underlines the car’s wide stance
– horizontal decorative panel in lower air inlet implies wide track
– optical link between glass-covered fog-lights and headlight cluster
– optimised lower grille obscures direct view of radiator / oil cooler

They wouldn't need to change tooling before March 2010 as both standard E92/93 and the respective M3 versions won't have their facelift until then. BMW just released a press release on the 2010 model year for the German market and they don't mention an LCI. Instead, a "Limited Sport Editions" will be available which is a common measure some months before the introduction of an LCI or a new generation. So, March 2010 seems to be a safe bet.

Best regards,
south

hahaha....Thank you guys!

I actually googled it since I couldn't find anything about what it meant on this forum. I googled: "lci-bmw". Here's the link: http://forums.e60.net/lofiversion/index.php/t36460.html

Both e36 and e46 received an LCI mid way through. The e36 was very subtle and included some int. revisions as well as engine, suspension and small head and tail light changes. The most ext. noticeable was the addition of side markers and rear head rests from the 94-95 and 97-98 respectively. Also the M3 engines received a bore, but not stroke increase from 3.0l to 3.2l. for the 96 model year...very small run, so most consider the first year 1997.

For the e46 it was more dramatic. The headlights and tail lights were completely revised. The rear lights received LED turn signals and the headlights the "dam edna" look. However, the M3 was NOT included in any front end revisions and only included the LED tail. The e46's also received engine and suspension upgrades as well. This time the M3's were excluded from engine upgrades, but not suspension.

Well, that's a shame that there will be no LCI until mid-march! Oh well - I've already ordered mine! MY2010 (will help with the resale for a matter of 4-6 weeks difference!) I'm still surprised that tooling won't change until Mid-March. If they close the factory in August then it only makes sense to me that tooling will change when they re-open.

Oh well - personally, I just can't wait!

Not entirely correct on the E36 changes as I was an owner of a 1996 M3. This link should help in straightening things out for the E36 M3:

http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=15

What constitutes an official LCI? All cars get updated features and slight changes during it's chassis lifecycle.

Same over here... I either want a Dakar Yellow M Edition or a Space Gray w/ Red Fox non-edition. I wish we can have some idea what exactly the change will be. I might just tired of waiting and order an imalo yellow S5 instead :-)

Welll it is all very interesting... I have no idea why they do a mid-year LCI rather than a beginning of year! However... at least the car will be MY2010 which is great because resale should be a little bit better even though it is only a month older (than a MY2009 in October!)

That being said..... I can't wait for my M3... should be AWESOME!

Safarii.... I'm chasing my dealer to find out whether or not there is an LCI from Oct/November - you would think that there would be some inidication soon...

Either way... I've been told that there are a few minor updates to the car (no idea what they are!)
