Stoptech st60/st40 front & rear pad wear ratio

I have a question for stoptech bbk owners who track their cars. How much longer do your front pads last than your rears?
I haven't taken very scientific measurements, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say that my rears last about 4 to 5 times longer than my fronts.
This might support my theory that I need more rear bias.

Could also be your activating traction control a lot assuming your running with traction control.....

I think your statement might be backwards? But...I did notice on the OEM brakes with PF01s that the rear pads were over 50% done when I went through my first set of front PF01s. Which is pretty fast for rear pads when compared to my E46.

I'm talking about track use, so no traction control being used.

BigJ, I saw the same 2:1 F/R pad wear when I ran the stock calipers with the pfc's. This is why I am surprised that my rear stoptechs don't have similar wear rates. I know that there are many variables such as thermal capacity, rotor design, pad volume, brake temps etc, but my rear pads are wearing like iron.

Anyone who tracks their stoptechs care to chime in with their wear rates?

Wow. That's interesting. I do have a BBK but not a stoptech and see about 2:1 front to rear so am surprised. I know many people just run front big brakes so this surprises me as we'll. I know there are lots of people out there with this kit so hopefully they will chime in.

What pads you running?

I'n confused, are your rear pads wearing like iron or wearing out faster than the front? Your first post indicates the latter

Stoptech ST60/ST40 with Pagid RS29s: Rear pads last 3X as long as the fronts.

I run the ST60/40 setup and go through the front pads at about a rate of 3 to 1.I run Pagid RS14/29 setup and and I am fairly aggressive on my brake usage and rears do not nearly build up the same heat as the fronts as the paint is still on pads when its time to change them out where on the front the paint is gone in a couple of sessions.I tried running the RS29 on the front but I had too much rear bias so I changed out to the RS14 on front and the balance is much better.

How many days do you get out of a set of front pads? I know I'm getting heat into the rears because the rotors are cracking just fine
It's funny how we feel differently about the bias. Maybe my stiff springs transfer the weight differently than your stock springs. Different strokes..
As far as pads, I've run pfc06's, raybestos st43's and stoptech sr 33's. I may even try the stoptech streetsports up front at sonoma to experiment with the bias.

I'm very interested to hear the consensus on this as well. I just installed the a stop tech bbk, st-60 front, st-40 rear on my F30 328i. I have stop tech race pads on the front and the street (semi-trackable) pads on the rear. I've only done one weekend at Gingerman (pretty brake intensive) and can't see any significant difference in wear rate between front and rear. The car felt pretty balanced with this set up; I was able to trail brake pretty easily with the street compound in back and race in front.

Totally depends on the track.I get about 4 days on the fronts at Watkins Glen & at least 10 days at the Mosport GP where I can run street pads all round with no great issues.I tend to trail brake a lot to help with the rotation on corner entry of probably liking less rear bias than most people.My rear rotors show no heat checking and the paint stays on the pads so I guess the rears are not being worked very hard at all.

Exact same setup here. Same result. Also, I'm just now changing my rear rotors after 2.5 seasons of track use, whereas I'm solidly into my second set of front rotors.

The pads should loosen up after a couple of changes, but in the meantime, you can push them out from the bottom. I use the same T shaped Allen wrench that I use on the bridge bolts to do this. Just make sure you aim for the backing plate and not the pad material. Good luck.
