Aside from several cosmetic changes, its the same as an 09. I have an 09 and all I want is the 2011-2012 rear taillight update. Other than that, same car to me.lol

absolutely nothing. I have an 08 with 56k on the clock. Not a single mechanical/electricity problem. I did have a leak in my seat bladders that was dealt with by the dealer. As for changes in 09 you have the major idrive change. The headrests are "active" for whiplash or something like that. And for sedans you have different tail lamps and trunk (trunk is only different because of tail lamp shape) Oh and someone noticed that there is less rubber seal under the hood in 09. And I am not sure what year they put vinyl sun shades in but that came along at some point.

Not a thing, I know a couple people with 2008's and they are excellent cars.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the 08s. I wouldn't mind picking one up that I can buy an extended warranty for. I don't care about the navigation system or anything like that though.

Why does everyone seem to think that the extended warranty is a bargain? Unless it's subsidized by BMW, chances are that you lose money on extended warranties. Otherwise, the issuers would go out of business.
Warranties are like insurance. You're simply paying a known cost that is slightly above the average/expected claims cost. The only time it makes sense is to protect yourself from a worst-case outcome that you couldn't otherwise afford. In all other cases, you're better off self-insuring, in which case you have a good chance of actually saving money! One useful aspect of warranties is that they can serve as a guide for how much you could otherwise expect to pay for repairs of covered items. |

I thought the biggest difference was the idrive/nav system between the 08-09+?

i'm just about to get an 08.i think the i-drive was upgraded after 08,and maybe the dct but if you're getting a manual w/o i-drive like i am,an 08 should be a good choice.

I have an 08 with 63K miles with no issue... way over warranty period if you know how to do a lot of the DIY... its like maintening a regular honda.. hahahahah...
Every 7k miles oil change = $130 Every 30k Miles, differential and tranny fluid change = $250+ Brake Pads = less than $130 a set...(have not replaced my original... ) and i still have 50 rear and 70% front... Rotors = dont need one yet... for a 63k miles engine still strong... feels like when i got the car... LOL |

There are no cosmetic differences at all....other than the LCI tails introduced in 2010. Primary difference is the update to iDrive/NAV.
I personally put on LCI's and swapped my idrive controller. Being out of warranty is another story and all about personal preference/comfort level....

To sum up why someone would prefer an 09+ preowned M3:
1. updated Nav 2. ZCP option 3. LCI tail lights 4. BMW apps 5. extra warranty headroom 6. DCT for 08 sedans (I think starting with late model 2008, sedans had the DCT option) Note, not all of these started in 09. |

LCI upgrade costed me 600$, i thought it was a great mod. But my friends wife laughed that i spent 600$ on some lights that she can't tell the difference. lol.

Purchased a set used for less than retail, which is $600. $50 to have it coded with Autologic.

South Jersey M3s
I'm looking within 100 mile radius. I liked the 2008 M3 Sedan Turnersville BMW had, but some weird things with the car.
- weird swirl marks near the side-back (driver-side) - M button fell off.. - think the price is a bit too high. - they seemed adverse to CPO'n it, but quoted around 3k+ to do it. Still looking here...I'll snag one before you. |
