To the OP, Congrats on the car! Enjoy it as it is probably the best car in the world to learn how to drive well on. From its perfect balance to instant power delivery, you will find yourself in true bliss while behind the wheel. I highly recommend getting a driving instructor to show you the rope from the very beginning, so as you do not build any bad habits while attempting to learn on your own.

haha thank you! In my honest opinion the M3 was the best car you could learn how to drive on. Of course you have to take the driver's attitude into account! But learning on the M3 was a blast! It was my first time driving a manual, and forced me to pay attention to what i was doing much more! I couldn't be lazy, i always has to make sure i was in the right gear to put enough power to the wheels when the situation called for it!

i completely understand where you're coming from, but in my case it made me more level headed while driving. I didn't have anything to prove, nor wanted to. I learned to appreciate the handling, braking, etc, way more than the power. Driving a car with great performance, such as the M3, allowed me to AVOID sticky situations more than getting into them. There where numerous times where I've had to slam on my brakes, or merge into congested traffic where acceleration really proved key. Now, I'm not saying the M3 is built for easier daily driving but it did help. On the other hand it is absolutely a masterpiece of german enginering, that in the hands of the wrong person, regardless of age, can become a coffin. Growing up, my best friends sister was killed in a car accident at 17. it was no more than a mile away from her house. being around that really shaped me into the respectful and, id like to think, mature person i am today. THought i would just give you my 2 cents

PS. My salesman (sold me my former Z4 e85) always drove an M3, last year he lost his life at 28 overtaking a car on a wet street on his way to see his girlfriend. The rear end gave away according to the eyewitness. Since he was a avert track driver ... now the dealership has a yearly track meet to remember him by for he was a very nice fellow and certainly too young to leave us. This is why I mentioned treat your car with respect for it has hidden powers that one needs to know and respect.

the m has treated me amazingly. I got rid of the e90 about a year after i got it and got an e92! http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359358

and the e92 has been awesome! Ive taken great care of it! and just slapped these puppies on it http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=567226

and theres a couple more mods to come.....

I'd just like to add it feels great proving everyone who said i would "kill myself" or "abuse" it wrong. Everyone is different.

I think it is great that you are this responsible at your age. Sometimes young people get grief here because MOST kids your age would not be responsible and they would be a danger to themselves and others (and it would be their parents' fault for giving them the car). You seem different so congrats and enjoy. Beautiful E92!!

awesome man. i cannot tell you how important driving lessons are for this car. please,do them. now that u have 2 years under your belt you will retain more and they will be much more effective. trust me, it will completely change your view of this car.

i would suggest BMW training over HPDEs at your level. use others' cars rather than your own. a lot of judgment is passed in HPDEs from some of the drivers, which may or may not affect you, so get some spirited driving under your belt before you do that. but start somewhere! good luck

wow I got my 07 e90 328 when I was 16 and I thought I was a spoiled kid haha, congrats. HRE is an excellent choice btw. I have replicas of the p40s because I have to mod on my own budget lol. I'm 17 now and about to be a freshman at Upenn so maybe I can come see this beast sometime?

from reading through many of your post and attitude/responses you seem to be very well grounded and mature for your age. Congrats on your E92,the wheels look amazing. Take a course like others have mentioned as it will really help you understand much more what your car is capable and NOT capable of doing under more adverse conditions and situations.
PS Oh yeah i forgot to say that you are one lucky dude for having such a beast of a car. Im about double your age and finally have my M.

Glad you have been enjoying your M cars at such a young age. My issue is not with the whole issue of responsibility, etc. I do believe there can be young people who are just as responsible, if not more, than some older folk.

Even if your parents could afford to buy you an M3, I do not feel they should have. By doing so, you fail learn the real value of money. I have a daughter your age. Sure, we could have bought her a more expensive car, but we bought her a VW Jetta. It is a nice, but reasonable car for her. She pays all her own gas and insurance through summer/weekend jobs.

I'm not saying people of affluence shouldn't do nice things for their kids, but there is a point where it is too much, irrespective of whether you can easily afford to or not. The M3 is one of the premier performance cars on the road today. I'm not saying you should be driving a 1998 Honda Civic, but even if you are a car nut, and you come from money (which you obviously do), a car like a 128i is more suitable and reasonable. The M3 is something you should get on your own.

Just my $0.02. I do hope you enjoy the car however.
