E92 M3 DCT starting from 2nd gear?

I just got this car so please pardon my noob-ness

While driving in D mode, I will come to a comeplete stop and the car stays in 2nd gear...is this NORMAL?

Sometimes it goes into 1st gear and sometimes it remains in 2nd (naturally take off is slower in gear 2)... anyone else experience this?

I did a search and someone said that the car does this as an adaptive feature to save gas...not sure of the validity of that.

Cheers

Yes, normal. The lower drive logic setting (D1, D2) will leave the transmission in 2nd at a stop. Use the higher settings and the car will start off in 1st gear...

Are you in D1 mode?

D1 is a Winter program designed to reduce slippage in icy/snowy driving.

The manual says this about "S" mode, so I would think the programming for "D" mode would be the same: "When the vehicle stops, Drivelogic drive programs 2 to 6 are automatically shifted down into first gear."

So one could infer that in a Drivelogic D1 or S1 the auto downshift to first is not required by the DCT software.

It may only be D1 but I seem to recall D2 staying in 2nd gear as well. I always drive in S3 or S4 so it's been too long for me to recall 100%. I'd check it out in my car but mine is in the shop have the rough idle issue taken car of...

Also with a bit of restraint, slightly better mpg can be gained by a 2nd gear start, especially if you squint.

Me too... don't think I've ever used D1 or D2. That would be a good thing!

Will check it out tho...

My car starts in D2 when cold and always goes to first gear at a stop, but I have to be completely stopped with the foot on the brake. If I'm ever so slightly moving it will remain in second gear.

This is with the Euro GTS DCT software mind you.
