Pontiac G8 GXP?
Anyone ever gone against the G8 GXP?
I know this car is nearly same HP as the M3, but with more torque and less weight. I had a guy in one today try to give me a run. I was doing 65 and saw him rallying up toward me in opposite lane. When he got right next to me he punched it, so I dropped from 4th to 3rd and punched it too! At first red LED I went to fourth. When I dropped & punched I lost him, but not by too far. Too bad we had to stop for the red light and I was turning anyway. I was hoping he'd follow me. Seems like that ugly bitch of a car can be something to reckon with on the street? I hope to see that guy again from a dead-stop, but I may eat my words.

I actually came from a G8 GXP, I really liked that car but I just always loathed for the m3. Well, that car has more torque than our cars and with minimal money one can make it pretty damn fast. Stock for stock I felt like the GXP "felt" faster but that was because of torque. Watch out for those LS3 motors they can surprise some people.

It's not actually "a pontiac". It's an Australian car named the Holden Commodore HSV.

GM has nothing in its stable that is close to this sedan besides the Cadillac "V" cars.
Really too bad, when they took down Pontiac, they could have kept this car as under another brand. I think this is a missed opportunity for GM. With the right marketing, the Australian car could have been a hit.

Correction on that.. the G8 GXP is heavier than the M3 by a good 300-400 lbs. The size and weight is more comparable to the M5.

It was also commonly compared to the E39 M5.

The suspension and chassis on the G8 was designed by the same engineers that designed the e39 M5. In typical GM fashion they used cheap ass parts, but the design and engineering was good. That was one of the first cars on the Zeta platform (The new Camaro uses the Zeta platform).
Take a G8 GXP, replace all the suspension bushings and add coilovers. Do some ECU tuning and change the pulley and you have a very quick, very capable sedan. On the G8 board there were guys doing just the suspension mods that were pulling a full G on the skidpad. |

it's a really nice car. Poor man's M5, but nothing wrong with that. I'm sorry, m5 is 100k, used one is insane to maintain. I think GTO and G8 are really one of the better american cars out there. Top Gear recently did a review on this one, it was by some famous tuner company in Australia, and they raved about it. Also along side revied the pickup version of this, which was tits!

fantastic car, wish I bought one when they were out, but timing worked out for the M3 instead - can't complain about that one!
