Unless they say the wheel broke in that video, I'd say that's just a camera not capturing the wheel while it's in motion properly. lol

I'm telling ya, it's the flux capacitor option. You put tiny ones on instead of wheel weights.

Yeah except in still pictures you cannot see the whole caliper not even close and the back spoke is straight.

To be fair a burnout in this car is probably way north of 200mph tire speed.

The car is sitting almost still. I said tire speed it may be way more than that it would depend on what gear they are in etc.

think about that for a min; tire speed would never exceed what the car can do.. and 200 mph is crazy. Ever do a burnout? Look at the speedo next time.

I'd assume it's something camera-related, probably to do with capture speed and focus point, though I'm no photographer. I'm also no physicist or anything, but I mean, the wheel still looks perfectly round. I doubt the wheel would look perfectly round while the 2 sets of spokes are stretched 45 degrees apart from each other or so. The barrel/rim itself would have to show some sign of deformation along with the spoke, or something, right?

If it was the actual wheel spokes deforming then all spokes should be bending and shearing in the same direction. Each spoke is effectively acting like a beam and reacts the applied torque by "beaming" the loads radially inward from the rim to the hub and, therefore, it would create a symmetric deformation pattern - not some spokes bending/shearing in the clockwise direction and others in the counterclockwise direction.

Think about it, if this wheel did not fail, where are the forces and/or moments coming from that would result in an asymmetric spoke deformation pattern?

It could be just the an optical illusion. The only way I saw it to begin with is my computer froze at this point in the video.

I've never admitted what I do for a living

Another way to look at this is the only way for the angle to increase between the two severely "deformed" spokes is if the arc length of the rim between the two spokes increases - what would cause only that one section of the wheel rim to stretch/extend and the rest of the rim compress/contract (other spokes are closer together)?

It has to do with how the video is captured on the CMOS.

we need a video expert, not a wheel engineer...
the caliper sits still, the wheel is turning at a high rate of speed, the camera will capture it differently...
my guess is that the wheel / tire will totally shatter if it was "real"...

here is a similar example (i'm sure you could actually superpose the 2 almost perfectly), and i can guarantee you this guy wasnt doing a 300mph burnout...
