I havent pulled the trigger yet. . .I am still looking at my options but I'm leaning towards ING Direct because they have a checking account that earns interest, not at the same rates as some of the other online banks but you have access to your cash in case you really need it (via debit card). It all depends how much you are going to throw in and what your goals are. All I'm looking to do is earn interest on money I circulate through on a semi-weekly basis. I have money in a savings elsewhere but you can't go wrong with any of those banks on there that have a low minimum and a medium to high yield. . .Citibank and Venture Bank caught my eye.

with all the bank failures of late, prob best to ensure you are not dealing with any questionable banks in the hope a earning a few extra dollars in interest

It's nice to take advantage of these low interest rates now, but make sure that you are not locking in your money with an account that offers crappy rates once our economy gets back on it's feet.

The rates are current. . .but I doubled checked on the Citibank rate and it links to the wrong site, so my guess is they have the wrong rate for Citibank. All the other ones seem applicable.

EDIT: rates will fluctuate also. . .so keep an eye on that.

Why not put it into a CD instead of a savings if you're going to put it in a bank? At least your rate will be fixed for that duration. If you want to invest it in a bank, a promotional CD will yield a better fixed rate than these variable savings rates. Of course, this is if you don't need it to be liquid during that duration.

Don't worry about bank failures unless you are planning on depositing more than 250k.

Dollar Savings Direct is offering 4% apy savings accounts right now. I just opened mine a couple of nights ago. This is the highest rate currently available anywhere.
