Winter Mode! - Winter Wheels/Tires Installed (w/pics)

With temps dipping down into the 20s lately, I went ahead with putting on my winter wheels and tires, which I picked up second-hand from a fellow board member (Thrumcap). They were in great condition shipped to me, so a big thanks goes out to him. They are 18" E46 CSL replicas staggered 8.5" in the front and 9.5" in the rear. They have Dunlop Winter Sport 3D tires mounted to them. I weighed them on a scale and they are about 50lbs a piece, which is slightly heavier than the stock 19" forged rims. The tires are also "meatier" with more tread than the summers.

I went with the black on black theme as it seems like the easiest to deal with during the winter with all the east coast mess we get during the winter. Hopefully it hides the brake dust and road grime well! I don't plan to wash the car as often as the summer with the freezing temps.

So far I'm really liking these tires as they ride really nice and smooth compared to the 19s. They are quieter and handle surprisingly well as I expected handling to suffer switching from the stock pilot sports. One thing that I did notice is that the ride seems slightly stiffer over bumps. It feels like my tires are over-inflated, but I have them inflated to spec. at 33psi in the front and 35psi in the rear. Overall I'm quite pleased though! Now on to the pictures!

Very nice...I did same mistake last winter...black on black...M3 is awesome in winter with good winter tires, but for cleaning is totally different story...black color is hard to keep clean in summer time, so can you imagine keeping this car clean in winter/salt, dirt, etc/...that's why i have second car now...I hope you will enjoy your car 100% this winter...

Very nice setup! I love the look of your white coupe with the carbon roof! Nice exhaust too with those black Dinan tips contrasting against the white. I bet it sounds great. I plan to do the OEM exhaust mod in the spring while painting the can black and mounting EAS Exhaust Tips. I digress though...ha
