Thumbs up The Best M3 Commercial Yet!!!

BMW sure do know how to get at the enthusiast heart, watch and you'll see what I mean... Aside from Ferrari's commercials this is the best one yet, subtle and yet seductive.

It is really good. It combines the key brand elements in a unique way. Very subtle but exciting at the same time. I was glued to the TV when I saw it for the first time last week....strong evidence that it shoots right at the proper target market.

really? the "look inside a motor" video though not completely original seems much more unique and bold than the standard pro-racer/racetrack/joe-driver/forest road genre commercial.

it takes a motorhead to get exicted about seeing valves in action, certainly a more hard core audience.

I think it is a very mediocre video ad. What a waste of money ( 4 engines disassembled for that ??) + that whole ad agency gets paid for this ? The problem is that they are trying to get to the physical aspect of how the M3 engine works without knowing much themselves about car mechanics and they had to use obvious hollywood style special effect for the explosion. There was no way they could record a real internal combustion explosion inside the cylinder so this was just a bad idea from the start. They should have thought of something more tangible and perceptible from a human senses perspective.

Actually, that is indeed done with high speed cameras for research purposes to understand flame propagation since it is almost impossible to accurately model/simulate combustion. Nothing new. But, did they use special effects to make things more dramatic? Probably yes.

Special effects yes, but CGI, no. There's a huge difference.

I love the ad, I think it was well done and aimed right at the target audience. Me.

I think it's awesome! As a car and tech fan I find things like this very fascinating to watch. High speed cameras are always fun. That combined with one of the most exciting cars ever and you have a great video. I have yet to see it on TV though.

you can see during the documentary video how they film a different type of combustion at atmospheric pressure that they used as a pretend internal combustion. Compression ratio is 12.5:1 in the M3 V8 so to me this is just "make believe".

They are filming this in some kind of production studio, not in a research lab, so of course, there will be limitations to what they can do. They clearly do not have an operational engine setup. Nor do they need to. It's just a commercial. If they really wanted to get footage of combustion in a fully functional M3 engine, that would have been possible somehow (probably not as dramatic due to what they would not have been able to do with the camera), but that is beside the point. I appreciated what they have tried to do regardless.
