Price on 2008 M3 sedan?

I am considering buying a one owner manual Silverstone/Black 2008 M3 sedan with 5k miles from the dealer that sold it originally. Dealer claims customer traded it back in after buying it new with only 3500k miles. Maint. records show the 1200 service was done at 1340k miles. Packages include Premium, Tech., cold weather, 19" wheels, moonroof, park distance rear, power rear sunshade and side manual shades, hd and sat. radio, enhanced prem. sound, ipod and usb adapter. Dealer is asking $52,500. What is a good price for this vehicle? What should i counter with? I wanted to wait for an '09 pre-owned but if the price is right I might be convinced to buy this '08.

Does it come CPO? When was the car 'punched' with the 1st owner (ie how much original warranty is left over?)

Getting down to brass tacks, that's a pretty decent price. There are two AW M3's (E92 and E93), with almost 4x the mileage, selling for nearly $58k each up here in WA.

That being said, I would still wait for a used '09 due to the upgraded iDrive. But then again, I am a software developer so I like nerdy little niggles such as extra buttons and higher screen resolutions.

This is perhaps a question better fielded/answered by someone who actually owns an '09 M3 - or, in my case, an E9x M3 in general - but, from what I understand, the new iDrive has common functionality buttons that make it more user-friendly.

It's not that what it does is any different; it's more that it is easier to do the things it does.

(I sound like a politician...)

that would make sense bc i think it is a pain in the ass and can't stand the i drive. it even has a delay, like it is slow. when you puss a funtion it takes 2-3 sec to go into the next sector sometimes, especially in the navigation section. i just don't like the i drive but then again i am coming from a E46 M3 and a E39 M5 so i am biased and like someone who just learned how to use a computer lol.

Since M3 used car price went up a bit, dealer is asking reasonable price.
But I would say, 51 -52k to bargain a bit.

That's about 68k MSRP car. If you search in the cars for sale section in our forum, that's the car people will ask you def. over 50k. And considering you don't have to worry about shipping, payments, DMV stuff, I believe it's very fair deal if you can knock it off another a grand.

if it helps you any, i just bought an 09 E92 M3 from a dealer. it had 9k miles on it and had every option that was possible to order. they have gone up a bit and this one was priced high at 58k. i talked them down to 53k. hope that helps you. i really had to work them though and even used a tire reader to measure the tires to get another 1k off the car lol.

i looked at others within a 300 mile range and those were priced btw 53-56k but they had less options and more miles and weren't in good as shape as the one i found which pretty much looked new, there wasn't one imperfection on the car that i could find. the only thing i found on the car was the tires were at 50%

Make an offer in the upper 40's. If they dont like it then they wont accept it but it cant hurt to ask. No need to feel guilty about trying to get a good deal.

Good going H Bomb. As I thought and been saying on this forum, prices on M3 has stabilized a bit after the firesales in April/May (trunk money from BMWNA to move the new 08's off the lots). Its also good to see real quoted purchased car numbers from buyers instead of those annoying 'lowball' numbers non-buying members throw out on these boards.

Good luck to the OP.

thanks alot. yeah when the manager came out and saw me on the ground measuring the tire tread depth he just looked at me and said " you gotta be kiddin me" i said nope i aint afraid to get dirty to check the car out, i'm not rich like most of your other customers i am just here for a fair deal. so after a few back and forths and the usual bs i got him down another 1k. i will say though they were very fair on my E39 M5 trade as i had 80k miles on it but it was mint and he realized that and didn't low ball me so i had the same respect and told him i would pay market value etc.

it was norwood BMW in Mass in case anyone needs car. i went straight to the sales manager to avoid all the bs and back and forth. the ones sales guy says to me" oh i will take care of you". i said oh yeah how your just gonna have to leave the room and ask him for permission on the price i offered so no thanks i will just deal with your boss and save you the running back and forth and i will pay less. lol he was pissed

Just out of curiosity, if the first owner traded it back with 3500 miles why does it have 5k miles now? What were they using it for? Joy rides for their staff, or was a (hopefully) responsible upper level employee using it as a demo?

There are still deals out there. I picked up my 08 (also with a 9/08 in-service date) with similar options (except PDC and shades) and slightly more miles (9k) for $48.5k... and that included a set of VIR710s with brand new blizzak LM-25s that were used for maybe a month + 5 yr/unlimited mileage tire and wheel warranty on the 19s.

Granted, it was private party.. and since I've put almost 2k miles in the first month with zero issues.

Good luck!

congrats thats a steal!!

yeah i agree where did the extra miles come from?? i make sure i got the service history and checked that on mine and it was good to go. one of the guys that works at the Dinan dealer i go to which is a independent race shop used to work for a BMW dealer and told me horror stories of M cars that they would have there and the salesman would beat the shit out of them when they would take them home to use then sell to people. so i always check the miles from when the car came in and how many it has on it now. i also write down my miles if i ever bring the car to a dealer for any warranty work

good luck with the new ride bro

Thanks very much... I think I got a very fair deal.

I agree with you about how the dealerships can be. I went to test drive a 135i and got my first ride in an M when the salesguy was getting out of the car. I asked how he liked it (I had never been in one) and he said hop in, I'll give you a ride.

It was a DCT sedan... and no lie, he was doing figure 8's around light poles in the back lot. Yes, it impressed the hell out of me, but when I thought someone someday will be buying this car and never know how hard it was driven is a bit unnerving. I'm not saying this causes damage to the M but it certainly must accelerate wear driving it like that!

Sounds like a great deal. Set of winter tires as well...for 48.5k....wow! The seller really had to let it go, huh?

Thanks. Yea he was moving and needed to free up some cash. He wasn't desparate but motivated. I didn't negotiate much, just a few hundred off what he originally wanted.

I know it's not a revolutionary idea but patience is really the key. If you don't have to pull the trigger immediately you can wait for the right opportunity. I never look for the lowest price/lowball because usually you sacrifice quality. Luckily for me I'm in a position where I didn't have to sell my other car (A 99 10AE Miata) so I could take my time and be selective.

I've had fast cars before but the M is really so well rounded. I still love the Miata but for luxury/performance/comfort, I've never owned anything like the E90 M3.

Thanks for all the replies guys they really helped me decide. I think I'm going to wait for a deal on an '09, hopefully new. By the way the extra 1500 miles they claim are from the manager driving the car ("very carefully"). It is obviously being used as a demo. I didn't like this fact.
