More than a fair price?
Relatively new to this forum and in all honestly I belong over on the 335 side, but I bought my car a few months ago with the intention of upgrading to an M3 at somepoint. The ultimate goal is to take ED in the Spring of 2013 but finances/personal reasons may make waiting that long a bit difficult
So, I casually test drove a '11 Space Gray sedan yesterday at a local dealership that they had taken in on trade. The thing is loaded to the gills and has 8k miles - even has ZCP, which I've found is somewhat rare up in my neck of the woods. I had no intentions of buying whatsoever but ended up talking numbers with the associate after the drive and they showed some willingness to come down from the $47k they showed me for the M3 plus trade in on my 335xi (335xi is 2008, 50k miles, loaded except for the 17" factory wheels, and is CPO) Did some research last night and based on what I've found in a short time frame (and at the insistance of the dealer, who keeps leaving me vm's wanting to know what my price is) I'm inclined to throw out low $30's just to see his reaction (this would be post tax, "fees," etc). I know I can get them to mid/high 30's, just interested to see how low they'll go IF, in the unlikely event the dealer comes back with a modicum of interest, how crazy is it to pass up on a deal like this? Based on the math I'm running, I feel like it's a steal but could be totally wrong Probably shouldn't have driven the car knowing that this is all I'll be thinking about for the next few weeks |

IMO I think if you say anything below 44k they will laugh in your face. A loaded 2011 with 8k miles going for anything under 45k seems fishy. Just my .02 man. If you can get it for that cheap by all means! If you dont get it shoot me over a pm with the info I want to check it out!

Define "loaded to the gills" please. That sounds like the price you would expect on an 09 or high mile 10

$47k plus your car?
Just showing trade difference really hides how much they are giving you for your car and how much they are charging for theirs. What does Edmunds or KBB say your car is worth on trade with an honest assessment of condition? Not knowing all the options on the car also makes this very hard to assess. tldr - Need to know price of car, trade amount, kbb value of trade, options on car

Sorry if there was any confusion - the prices I listed above assume I'm trading in my 335, which autotrader quotes at a 24.5k "trade it in now" price. I was essentially trying to back solve for a list price of 53k on the sedan. Hopefully this makes some sense

What are the options on the sedan?
You can add almost $20k in options onto the list price of the sedan. Knowing used car dealers though I bet if they are listing the car at $53k I bet you could get it for $47k with no trade.

I realize my original post may not have been very clear, so here are the details:
My car CPO 2008 335xi - Black Sapphire Metallic, Black leather interior with grey poplar wood trim 50,000 miles Automatic Cold weather package Premium package Sport package Comfort access Navigation, SAT, etc. Logic7 sound iPod enabled 17" factories M3 2011 sedan - SG, black interior, carbon fiber trim ~8,000 miles DCT Competition package Cold weather package Premium package Technology package Park assist KBB puts mine at ~$27.5k, although it is CPO which I assume adds a little value. List on the M3 at the dealer is $65k |
