Updated: Evo UK - 458 vs LFA vs '12 R35.2 GTR vs SLS vs 570 vs R8 vs GT3 & GT2 RS

Thanks to **************.

Out of a pool of initially 30 cars, 10 cars were selected.

Evo UK best engine of the year:

4.8 Liter V10 Lexus LFA

Final ranking:

1. Porsche GT3 RS : 96.3 (6 top votes out of 10)
2. Ferrari 458 : 95.6 (4 top votes out of 10)
3. Porsche GT2 RS : 93.8
4. Lexus LFA : 92.5
5. Mercedes SLS : 91.5
6. Audi R8 V10 Spyder : 90.9
7. Lotus Evora S : 90.5
8. Nissan GTR : 90 ('12 R35.2 new updated one)
9. Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 : 88.5
9. Ford Focus RS500 : 88.5

Impressions tagged by ranking of the car:

9. Gallardo is old school versus the 458.
9. Ford focus is a very good car, with good traction and pleasant to drive, but cannot bear the comparison vs all the other cars which are in a different league.
8. GTR still as potent as before but it lacks the novelty effect. Suspensions are still an issue, lacking feedback. The new GT-R is not a revolution and if you didn't like the previous one, this is not going to change.
7. Evora dynamics is top level (steering, ride, handling) but quality is disappointing.
6. Nothing new, always the same review for R8: easy driving, everyday usability, top-performance. Good conversion into convertible.
5. SLS AMG Divided the opinions (some high scores, some low ones, not a lot of average). Everyone loved the engine, most reviewers hated the transmission (worse than some auto, not at the expected level for a DCT).
4. Lexus LFA is a very special car which shows loads of passion and soul. Extraordinarily stunning V10 engine comparable to the Porsche Carrera GT's. Tough ride.
3. GT2 RS less satisfying that a GT3 RS, but could have been a winner on another year.
2. 458 astonishing car, from the cockpit to the drivetrain and the handling. Less involving than the GT3 RS.
1. GT3 RS Best driver's car...

They left out some cars that would easily be at or near the top of that list.

Out of the listed cars, I'll take the 458. It is simply a masterpiece.

I'd agree with the top 5. Surprised the LP570 ranked so lowly on the driving impressions. I'm hoping AMG jumps on that DCT lag problem. That's the primary concern I've heard from every review, and you can see it in videos too.

Ferrari 599 GTO, is one they definitely left out.

Another could be the M3 GTS.

The GTS is such a disappointment, more so than the 1M

God all these reviews coming in about LFA's incredible feel and soul make me sad I'll probably never drive one.

GT3 RS is great as always.

Definitely not worse than the "non-M 1M".

The GTS price is just stupid.

I think Porsche really needs to evolve the GT line to offer PDK. A track car with a manual is just not intuitive.

I'll take the LFA, thank you very much... But wish they'd revise the front end.

Because it didn't make their list or because it's half the car it should've been?

Garage List
I know many here feel the GTS should have made it on to the list but I guess EVO had their reasons which we can only speculate about. My guess is that the car wasn't as good as they expected considering it was from the firm which gave us the CSL, price can't be an argument for excluding a car, surely not?

The best car won, the second best came second and the third would have been first if it wasn't so god damn powerful. The Lexus finishing 4th is one hell of an achievement considering the list of cars ahead of it, on any other day it could have as easily won. Audi didn't has the right car there, the GT was just too new otherwise the results might have been different.

As for Mercedes and the SLS, now all we need is a Black series.

The 918 Spyder Hypercar is going to be exclusively PDK, and the new turbo S is also exclusively PDK. Just dont expect the 6mt to vanish in the GT models.
PDK isn't that great..we have it in one of our vehicles, my 335xi 6MT is way more fun than PDK.

It is fast, and it is great in traffic I just shift the knob to automatic mode..PDK is good on the highway BUTTTT

PDK is completely useless in the city, the way you shift manual from stoplight...PDK just can't do it; its slow -- PDK can only shift quicklyi n one direction, up or down, not both.

I initially thought after driving our PDK car that it would replace the manual, and it will in cities with heavy traffic; but it won't as a driver's car.

458 Italia fail. I'm sure ferrari will come out with 6MT later on.

^ Amazing, that is the first time I have ever heard or noticed this about dual clutch transmissions and I've owned 3 different ones so far.
