Oil cooler is here, more importantly, the gummy bears are.

Little update for today, "snow day" in Austin so I got some work done on the car. I finished the paint correction and ceramic coating, pics will come when the car is back on the ground. My aim was not perfection but significant improvement which was achieved. Next, I got started on prepping the car for rod bearings and the other maintenance items/upgrades. I also purchased Ohlins R&T with Ground Control camber plates through EAS.
 I had been eyeing them for some time when I had my E46 M3 but never could do it, very excited to get them!Most of what I used on the exterior;  Untitled by jake ellegard, on FlickrThere some fairly large rock chips. I used the touch up paint I had for my E46 (carbon black) and it actually came out pretty nice. I don't think the DCT pan is leaking because the tray is dry but I think it's the oil cap o-ring leaking down and the wind making it go every where, we'll see. The car was not warm so the oil was thicker than normal but I still feel like it shouldn't overflow when removing the filter. Unfortunately, as with LITERALLY EVERY E9X I or a buddy has taken the fan out on the coolant overflow line snaps at the upper radiator hose. I should've thought ahead and just bought a new upper and overflow hose, I played myself. It is beyond me why people don't just replace them every change or when they begin to round. The 6MM hex wouldn't even fit into it to take it off, I had to use a T40. I'm just glad they came out. Got the oil cooler in. You can see how messed up the old one was, surprising it didn't leak.

This is amazing to follow Warpig, how nice to see that classic M3V8 come to live again!
Also a good reminder that being a tad OCD and keep dirt away + immediately fix issues makes life soo easy - where you will be when done! Thanks for making the effort to share buddy! |

OP...all I can say is Wow! And you are my hero
  Great work and please keep us updated on your progress. It's awesome that you are bringing this car back to life. I hate the person that would do this to an M3. It looks like it was incredibly mistreated...and then stolen and driven off road...and then abandoned in the hot TX sun for a long period. I'm glad it's found a good home now.Subbed...

Thanks for the kind words!
Unfortunately, there's bad news. UPS lost the package with my rod bearings and bolts so who knows when that'll be found. In the meantime I'll reassemble everything I guess. Moral of the story, don't disassemble until you have your parts. Good dry run minus the broken coolant pipe LOL |

Wow, unbelievable that an M would be so neglected. The stripping looks like its been sitting in the AZ sun for 30 yrs!

Looking forward to see how you bring back that carbon roof! Everything is else looking fantastic so far. A testament that these car CAN last many years of hard use, and in the right hands can be made into the perfect car again.

Since the rod bearings were lost by UPS I reassembled everything and will do them whenever they show up. I'm also waiting for my Ground Control camber plates so I can install the Ohlins.

Jerez Black looks pretty nice when its properly polished and cleaned.
I should be able to clean up my car soon once the paint settles within the next few weeks
