I am in need of all your opinions. The speed bug has bit me (again), and I am looking to change things up possibly. I am selling my 2011.5 M3 and I am on the fence of a) buying a low mileage CLK 63 BS or putting cash down on a C63 BS at a local dealer.

I have always been in love with the CLK since I first set my eyes on it back in 2008, and now they are something that is within reach with being around $70 - $80K. The second option is going for the C63 BS (top of my budget).

A bit of background: I have recently bought a 2012 C63 Edition One (wife's car), and now that I have driven that torque monster, I am hooked on it. Granted, once you get into the high RPM range on the M, it takes off, and drives like a dream, but it's not the same as the C63 (torque monster). This has lead me to look for something that has a but more "punch".

I have also considered just keeping the M (which I still love to drive), and adding a ESS 575 supercharger, but then you run into warranty issues. I also only keep my cars for about a 1 - 2 years at the most.

I am aware that asking this question on M3post with have answers leaning towards the M, but I am curious of the communities viewpoint. We are all car enthusiasts, and I do believe that we all can understand that when the (mod/speed bug) bites, sometimes it's hard to break away from its grasp.

Thanks for the help.
Keep your M3 for another year or so, then get the M5. A flash on the M5 will give you SERIOUS torque.

If you only plan on keeping the car for 1-2 years, get the CLK BS and enjoy it. Been one of my favorites for a while now. Or do as others have said and look into Porsche as they deliver a whole new level of driving experience. Why don't you also throw the GT-R in the mix while you're at it.

CLK 63 BS is very uncomfortable as a dd. Much better suited for the track. I've spent a lot of time in the Mercedes and I prefer the M3. Not because I own the BMW, because it is the better all around vehicle.

The 997.1 turbo is absolutely bad ass.

A good friend of mine has one and it's my favorite car I've driven by far.

If I had your budget, there would be no comparison. I have driven a c63 as well.

The torque of the turbo is even more impressive than the c63 even in stock form. And everything else is better too.

the clk black series is great for styling but performance is a bit dates. unless you're planning on going with the wiestec supercharger it will feel a lot like your wife's edition one 63. i doubt you'll be able to get a c63 black series at invoice but once you do is the price really worth it? you must ask yourself this question.

if you love your m3 but want more torque and hp a supercharger is a must.

black series all day.

The cars presence alone shits on pretty much everything it's near.

I would choose that over a turbo, and of course M3/GTR.

Black series are not bad though.

997GT3,
Any pics of the GT3 RS 4.0???

Damn, that is one of my dream cars. Would definitely love to own and track one. Price for the 4.0 is is out of my grasp since I have a lot of priorities to take care of before I deciding to own one.

Lotto lotto is the answer for now... If I win the lotto, I would definitely help a lot of my relatives and donate to charity. After that's all taken care of, GT3 RS 4.0 here I come!

I do like the BS, I think you should get either a 997.1 turbo or a 997 GT2. You should go and test drive one. I think you should go up another class as well.

OP, go for the CLK. My buddy has one and he put almost 15000 miles on it so far and loves it. I've driven it quite a bit since he leaves his car w/ me (he's in the process of a divorce) and when I get back into my M, the car just feels mmmm mundane. He's thinking about selling his and I'm actually considering buying it. Oh boy, my '11 review's coming up, so things go well, the bonus check will help out!!

Do it!

unfortunately, some ppl care about looks more than function. I agree with you. I actually think keeping these cars stock is going to be better in terms of performance. MB spent lots of money engineering the CLK BS, you'd think they know a thing or two about optimum suspension tuning and wheel size?

I have an M3 and love driving it. But the black series is on another level. They look insane in person and you can tell its a $100k+ car. The performance is top notch too, I believe the Ring times were close if not a little faster than an M3 GTS. Plus you get the nice Benz interior. You can't go wrong with any Black Series car!

I think there's a difference between lowering the car for performance reasons and doing it for cosmetic ones, and I doubt that anyone can say that AMG was modified for anything other than cosmetic reasons with a straight face.

It's ok though, it ain't easy but someone's gotta do it.

OP, seeing as your decision is leaning towards Merc due to your previous experiences driving them, I'd drive a Porsche first before deciding.

Personally I would pick a new M5, M6 over any 63 in my book. Not even a fan of the look. A Porsche turbo even. I drove most of the MB and they all felt like a whale to me. but enjoy whatever you pick.

Are you being sarcastic? That car has rubber bands for tires, 20" rims, and rock hard suspension to stop it self from rubbing on a perfectly smooth road. That is NOT how to build a good cornering car. I'm sure you're one of the people who put springs on a car and assume that stiffer = better.
