Back 2009, I got pulled over a tad past midnight on 680 in San Ramon. CHP radar'd me at 108. He sounded like a bimmer enthusiast himself and wrote me up for 90+.

Fine was around $200+ and traffic school.

This led me to grab a Valentine One radar which, btw, the CHP officer told me about mid-ticket.

Mine just went through the whole court process. I hired a traffic lawyer to handle it. End result, cop showed up with all proper paper work and certificate. My lawyer pleaded no contest, processed as over 65mph, $490 ticket, 1 point, no traffic school, no suspended license.

By the way, here's what you're looking at if you lose.

Mandatory court appearance first and foremost

The fine is closer to $900-1000 for the violation alone if it is CVC 22348 (excess of 100 mph)

Loss of license for 30 days.

2 points and they are reckless driving points. Very different from two normal points. MANY insurance companies view it as equal in reckless driving as a DUI's 2 points. Only difference is that a CVC 22348 two points will drop off in 3 years in CA. Whereas a DUI conviction leading to two points will take 10 years to drop off including having to file an SR-22 every year.

Since you're new to this state, your rule is that you cannot accrue more than 4 points in any rolling 12 month period. If you do, that is grounds for possible license suspension. I cannot recall if it is 30 days or 1 year. They don't have to suspend it but they can at 4 points. Pass it and you're bound to have it taken away.

But in certain cases you can have more than 4 points and still be driving as long as you get them not in the same exact year. But your insurance will be so expensive and you'll want to move to Manhattan to never drive again.

100% you need a lawyer right now.

About 5 years ago, I was pushing around 140 on the 10 Eastbound coming up on the Palm Springs area. My passenger saw a CHP under a bridge, so I hit my breaks, but I was still over 100. I pulled over even before the CHP got behind me to turn on his lights. I acted in a respectful manner, and my excuse was I was running on a tight schedule to work at Indian Wells tennis tournament (still not a justified cause, but a reason). I was cited for 105 in a 75 zone, and I was allowed to proceed to go to work in Indian Wells. I never got a Lawyer, but I went to Court on my court date. The CHP officer showed up, and I decided to plea bargain with him by asking him if he was willing to drop the citation to under 100, so that I could go to traffic school. He agreed to it, and I pleaded guilty to 95 in a 75, and after traffic school, no points on my record.
Everyone breaks the law every day. It always helps to be humble, dress professionally and clean, and be respectful of the officer and the duties that they perform, and have a clean record. It also helps to have a reasonable officer also.
The moral of this story, keep 100+ speeds to Track Days, especially when going 150+

For future tickets: I was pulled over by CHP for going 91 on the 405. A friend of mine told me about ticket busters and how they will get the ticket dismissed or resolved. I went to their site and called them. I had to pay them their fee which was something like $200.00. They will tell you to pay your ticket and they will fight it. I had to send them a copy of my ticket with a check to pay it and they sent it in. If they can't get the ticket thrown out then they will refund you their fee. Someone will call you and talk to you about your case. It was really easy and they did all the work. My case was dismissed and NO ticket AND I got my money back from the court for the ticket. In all it only cost me for their service which was well worth it. Give it a try it may save you on insurance and points against your license. Here is the web site. http://www.ticketbust.com/ or call them at 800-850-8038. I’ve used them 2 times so far and won both times. Their success rate is over 90%. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Congrats OP! wow I love this state...

People complain about the police/traffic laws here but from my personal experience (Ive gotten several warnings when doing 85+ on various SoCal freeways) and from anecdotal info in this thread, this place is really generous!

Im originally from DC/VA where a 100+ is basically mandatory night in jail. It doesnt help that the speed limit is 55 on freeways. And you never hear about someone getting a ticket of this sort thrown out. Oh and any 20+ speeding is a reckless in the nazi state of VA, mind you thats 75+ because of the aforementioned low speed limit on the freeways, which in CA is the standard pacing speed.

Btw if you own this car (or any high powered sports oriented vehicle) a radar detector is mandatory. Its like having risky sex without a condom, sure you can get away with it some of the time but why wouldn't you want protection.

Shameless plug I have a great BNIB Escort Max on sale!

Do the crime, do the time.

We have speed limit signs here.

Look up www.thetrafficticketattorneys.com if it was in the so cal area. I recently talked to one of the lawyers there and plan on using them for a speeding ticket. He claimed to have a 93% success rate in having tickets dismissed or lowered to a non moving violation. It seems like a good bet especially for you because you would get 2 points on your record for that speed. Plus they go to court for you so you don't have to miss work.

While I usually agree with this, there are certain holes in CA laws. For instance, on i10 in the middle of the desert 70-75mph just isn't something that is common. Almost every car drives 80-95mph. It's hard to imagine a potential felony ticket for doing 5mph over the flow of traffic. I know a felony upgrade is extremely rare, it's just sad that a 100+ ticket carries relatively equal weight to a DUI or a vehicular assault ticket........

100+ in a busy area, I fully think somebody deserves a ticket. However I just received one in the middle of the desert and think that it's ridiculous since I merged into the slow lane to pass another driver that didn't know how to hold a steady speed in the 80-85 range. They kept doing 60mph the smashing on the gas up to 90 then slowing back down to 60.

A couple years ago I was clocked at your exact same speed on the 101 in the Bay Area. I was passing a meandering Prius in the fast lane in my HPF M3 and got clocked by a cruiser. Needless to say I lawyered up and got off scott free.

It could of been a lot worse, he could of popped my hood, state reff'ed the car, been arrested, car impounded, etc. etc. the list goes on.

Now that i look back, that $500 I spent for a lawyer was well worth it. He did mention he knew the judge and or the officer though

edit: your best bet is to find out what County the court is in and Yelp the best fuggin' lawyer you can find in that area. Don't be afraid to haggle on his price either. However that violation you have is a two pointer, equivalent to a DUI.

I wrote a letter to the city government telling them that the punishment disproportionate and severe than the violation. I provided a 100+ mph fine on state highways as an example to compare. There's no way a 100+ mph is just as severe as a red light run where no pedestrians or cars are in the intersection.

Welcome to the "tax" state.

class warfare . . .

I'm almost 99% sure the red light camera tickets were deemed "unconstitutional" a couple years ago in LA County, BUT I am not a lawyer.

Congrats to OP! This let's me know I should actually invest in a radar. The 118 Fwy out here is way too easy to end up over the speed limit.

The fact that you get the ticket in the mail is the problem. You haven't been properly "served" papers. Arizona got rid of their speed cameras after someone sued using that as the basis, iirc. Might be the same situation in the Republic of California too...
