When you handle your car's cold start and warm up procedure as meticulously as you would surgery...

Insist on opening & closing the wifes & kids doors so they don't get fingerprints on the trim - Can't stand greasy KFC finger marks on my shadowline trim.

Haha... you let people eat KFC before getting into your car!?
I used to be pretty obsessive, but racing has taught me to look at cars more as tools. (Not that I don't keep my tools clean and in good condition, too, but they're definitely meant to be used, not sealed away.) And being a dad has taught me to relax about some things because I just don't have time to keep everything as clean as I like, but I still try.

Clearly, to most of us, it's not just a car. This thread was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate that.

I'll rain on the parade a bit by saying when you walk away from a car crash or the house burns down and nobody gets hurt... it really is "just a car" or "just a house"... Things can be replaced (pretty much), but flesh and blood can't (usually).
And being able to walk away from a crash is one reason I like driving BMWs... they're tough and they do a great job of protecting the people inside :-)

Anyway, I agree with what your saying. To me, the M3 is more than just a car but at the end of the day, it is still a material possession. I think its important to never lose sight of that. Being surrounded by friends and family, having a successful career and finding inner happiness is all more important than putting the car before everything else. But, in my case, what is unique about the M3 (speaking generally with respect to both my M3s), is that it represents what I have wanted for so long and what I have done to get it. This car is the perfect embodiment of who i am and where i've come from. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

You know you're obsessed when you find yourself going into this forum more than 3 times per day. More like 3 times per hour. Not that I do. It just happens to be my home page when I open my macbook.

You park in this spot every day, even though it takes you 5 extra minutes to get to your office.

I get to the office 2 hours before anyone else... And, um, it's so I can get more work done... Not to mention that I can just happen to see my car from my office window everyday since I'm there before everyone else ...

That's the only way I ever get to do a decent job of washing/waxing/etc... Weekends are full of honey-dos and it's easier to steal time from work than from my family sometimes!

When you drive your m3 to the beach even though your family is going to cover it in sand, icecream etc (before they even get in it, had to pick a gummy bear out the sliding top on the centre console in the back the other day!) because you love to drive it....
...working on getting an x5....will partly solve this problem Stu |
