Official, Nissan Announced GT-R Laps Nurburgring in 7m 29s

The Nissan GT-R can now lay claim to being one of the fastest production cars in the world after GT-R chief test driver Tochio Suzuki completed the famous Nurburgring circuit in Germany in just 7 minutes 29 seconds. According to our records, this puts the GT-R in second place for fastest laps by unmodified production cars just behind the Pagani Zonda F which posted a time of 7 minutes and 27 seconds last November. The time completely destroys the GT-R's previous best lap of 7 minutes 38 seconds achieved last year in slightly damp conditions.

Kazutoshi Mizuno, Chief Vehicle Engineer for GT-R said “At last year’s testing, we were frustrated by the conditions at the Nürburgring, always believing that the GT-R could go under seven minutes 30 seconds, the GT-R proves it is among the fastest mass-production cars in the world. We set out to build a multi-performance supercar accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere – I believe the GT-R has delivered that promise.”

The world can now look forward to a response from the GT-R's main competitor, the Porsche 911 Turbo whose best time stands at a lowly 7 minutes and 40 seconds.

This car is kicking some serious ass. The engineers set out to top the 911Turbo, but they ended up besting the CarreraGT also. And just wait until the Vspec comes out. I would expect it to shave another 8 to 10 seconds off the time.

I can't wait till the European magazines get a hold of a production car and do some times on the 'ring. That's when I'll believe the time.
3800+lbs and "480hp" does not add up to a 7:29.

For comparison, CGT is 605hp and 3100lbs and is SLOWER.

FYI, the car's hp is underrated. The real hp is close to 550hp.

I know. That's why I put the HP in quotes. It actually makes 480rwhp or 560+ hp at the crank.

It still doesn't add up unless the cornering speeds are that much higher.

Road and Track came out with their GT-R comparo with a Z06 and 911TT. The GT-R beat the other 2 on the track they used by 5 seconds. 5 seconds is huge on a smaller track. Yes, the cornering speeds ARE that much faster due to the very trick computerized AWD system.

Exactly. There come a point where you have to decide if you want to drive the car or you want the car to drive for you. Though it's not as if Porsche/Ferrari don't have fancy computerized aids as well.
