When to order 2009 M3?

Anyone have an idea when the model year switches for the M3 build slots? I am thinking of ordering a 2009 (not the current first year of the E92 M3) and wondering when they will switch over to that? The 2008 M3 is arriving "late" for the model year, and wondering if they will catch up for next year, or if the 2009 M3's will ship later as well.

Well, I'm thinking of moving up from my 2004 M3 to a new E92 M3. But if I sell mine I'll do better waiting until the summer for that. Plus, like the first year of the E46 M3, I expect there to be some teething pains with the new V8 and the E92 M3. So I'm leaning toward waiting for the second model year.

Yea, I hear you on that. Drove one a week ago, felt pretty good. Not wicked faster than the E46, but the V8 sounded nice. And the interior and gadgets offer a bit more. Clutch and brake seemed a bit softer but nothing that wouldn't be adapted to. And the M mode is a lot nicer than the outgoing E46.

im having the hardest time lookin at everyone enjoying their new ride but ima also wait it out a year somehow someway...cuz im leaning towards the DCT so i might as just wait and let them also work out the kinks...and even though some people dont think so, i think they are wrong when they dont think you will get the M3 under msrp...i got 6 grand under msrp on my 2002 M3...so i know its very possible...with the build i have in mind it comes out to 65,500...that mean potentially there is a chance i can pick it up for about $59,000...to me thats hell of a deal compared to what people are paying now

Agreed, price will be the worst for the next few months, then stabilize. I was able to get a decent deal 4 years ago on my 2004 at $3000 lower than MSRP.

As long as they don't raise price on next years M3 I'm happy, it's a lot of car for only about $10,000 more than I paid for my E46 M3 4 years ago. Seems fair to me.

dude if they raise the price on the M3 next year...call me a trader but i will be leaving the M3 a thing of the past...as much as i love the car that would just be ridiculous...even at its current price IMO it is overpriced

I talked to the sales manager at my dealership today. He said the 09 deliveries wouldn't happen until around next March.....that they're on a different schedule. Do you think he's right?

whoa really? that sounds way to fishy to me...a little to late when you really think about it...i think it might be just a way to get you in his office to make a deal now by making it seem such a long wait for the 09 model

Nope. He wants you to buy one now most likely. They take off August and start building '09s in September and deliveries will start probably early October.

It does sound strange. I'm #2 on the list for DCT. I mentioned to him that maybe I should wait for the 09 (being so close to end of the year for my delivery now). That's when he told me around next March for 09. Maybe my dealer just wants to move them. Is there any official word from BMW?

If they do start producing 09 M3s in August I don't think enough time will have passed to get all of the anticipated kinks out of the car...just my .02...I'd wait until March of 09 anyway...

BMW North America email

I sent an email off to BMW North America asking this question, and got the following reply. While it isn't too informative I figured I'd share it in this thread.

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx:

Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding the new M3. We appreciate your enthusiasm for our vehicles.

The 2008 model year will end production in August 2008. Unfortunately, I do not have specific dates at this time. I hope this information is helpful.

If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Again, thank you for contacting BMW.

With the fiscal year ending with the month of October you should probably able to put in an 09 order in May. However, I doubt there will be any significant changes in the last few months of production. Keep in mind the Euros have had this car for a long time already and I dont think there have been any reports of upcoming changes or teething issues.

You can just tell them to hold off on the production date I assume? So I guess I would just put a deposit down and then let him know when I want it to go into production right?
