Ground Clearance on an E92 M3
Hey guys
I've got an M3 edition arriving at some stage in November (I hope). I know mine is going to be 10mm lower than standard, but if any of you could tell me what the ground clearance is on a stock E92 it would be much appreciated. If I find out that its going to be too low I can cut the kurb out of my driveway before the agony of scraping the car the first time that I bring it home!!!! |

Because M3 editions are factory lowered by 10mm. Check it out at this link. http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/05/29/su...dition-models/

Tony.... through my psychic powers.. I'm going to say that your driveway will be 10mm too high for your M3...

Your probably right Zenderm!! I don't know why BMW don't put it in the specifications. Most other car companies do. Would be nice if I don't have to rip up half of my driveway so that I can drive it in normally. I guess I can back it in if worse come to worse. All will be revealed when I bring it home from the dealer for the first time....

You may have to get the protractor out to calculate things here cause it is all about the overhang. I suggest getting a M3 demo and doing a drive way test too see, if it is a bees dick off the drive then you will have a problem. Solution, I will swap you cars
So spill the beans: Colour (edit:just read your "Drives, Monte Carlo Blue"... hmmm nice) Options When and please how much and where did you get it Last edited by Alpine*; 10-14-2009 at 02:13 AM.. |

For what it is worth, my M3 is lowered 20mm at the front and 15mm at the rear and has a Vorsteiner lip fitted and providing care is taken I have no serious clearance issues.
Having said that the odd scrape is commonplace with an M3, however it comes from a protective piece of underbody plastic which sounds much worse than it actually is!

Hey Zen
Up until now I've refrained from asking for the VIN. Figured it would make the time go slower checking the shipping company's website to see where it is, but today I sent an email to find out what it is if they have it. Hope to get it tomorrow. Quote:
Love your style mate with the two white bmw's. I'd get a 135 for my wife if she didn't have to squeeze two kids in the back everyday... Bought it from Motorline bmw last month. Went in to buy a normal m3 (interlagos blue) with some extras and ended up walking out about two hours later with a deposit paid on the edition. The sales guy showed me the pictures from the Frankfurt Motor Show and I had to have it as long as the price was good. Because they had already ordered it options were limited but all I really wanted was DCT, 19" wheels, floor matts and tinting. So basically the car they have coming is exactly what I want. Paid smack on $180,000 for it and that includes a set of prestige number plates. Should be arriving sometime in November. |

Welcome! Good you mate for picking up an edition. What colour did you get? I think all the cars were allocated to different countries pretty early in the piece. Don't worry to much though. Its a long way from Germany to Australia!! We will probably end up picking them up around the same time. Mine will be in Perth on friday and then only 9 more days till it hits brisbane. If I didn't have work to distract me I think I would be in therapy right now.... |

Thanks for the warm welcome. I got mine in Alpine White...I promise I did give the other 3 colours a chance, but I whittled it down to Yellow and White, and since my 2nd car is bright yellow (1976 Mk2 Escort) I figured I better go with white, plus if I did get the Edition in Yellow people would think I have a fetish for the colour yellow. BMW rang me 2 days ago to tell me the car is built and that it will be shipped from Germany in 2 days....so it should be on its way!!! He said it should arrive in 2 weeks!! (Ha, some might say I have a thing for the number, “2”) Luckily I have just taken on a meaty project...A Variable wheel base car....its making my head hurt...but it is taking my mind of the new car arriving. I will find it hard to keep the revs down...would be nice if you could use the I-drive to set a soft limiter at 5k revs. Can’t wait to let the engine sing all the way to 8.3k!! |
