"Bimmer" or "Beamer" clarification

Is it true that when referring to a BMW automobile that you should say "Bimmer," but when referring to a BMW motorcycle, you should say "Beamer?" I searched and found this thread saying that that was the case:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...er#post1977475

But I'm not sure if this is really accurate, or just someone stating something that they aren't really sure about. Inquiring minds want to know.

It's true, Bimmers are cars, Beamers are bikes.

When I first got mine I was confused just the same. Looking at the word "Bimmer" and pronouncing it as "Beamer" didn't make sense to me, but I just went with it.

So you're saying that automobiles are called Bimmers, but that Bimmer is supposed to be pronounced Beamer? Now I'm even more confused

Yep--most people think there is an EA in Beemer--not the EE.

Honestly, I don't think I've heard anyone call a BMW car a "BIM-mer"

I have heard people call BMWs that way, but most of them are of older generations!
