Engine Light - Fault Codes

Hi,

Recently had the engine light come on following a 210mile/4 hr journey, pulled over phoned bmw assist and on restarting the light had cleared. 20minutes into the journey it popped up again but just the icon, which stayed on.

I had the fault codes read and were as follows;
2B3C Misfire with cutoff, cyl8
2B5D Cruise control, deactivation
Undefined code 2796
2B49 Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cyl 8.

The specialist that did the read said there is a software update available for the DME which could be the cause. The car is a 2008 M3 convertible, 30k miles, FMDSH.

Has anyone else experienced this before or have any ideas? Car feels fine

Thanks,
Scott

They haven't been done yet, BM dealer said next service or at 37,000. I asked about doing early and was told there was no need, they are good for 60,000??

2B3C - P0308: Misfire with cutoff, cyl. 8 (Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected)

3.3V in miss window for at least 5 ms
(K_AUSS_NS_TIME_MAX) or for entire miss window

1. Check spark plug, interchange with other plug or replace
to localize malfunction.
2. Run compression check.
3. Inspect cylinders to determine whether coolant and engine
oil are entering.

2B49 - P0308: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cyl. 8

No spark detected in ionic current signal

1. Check spark plug, interchange with other plug or replace
to localize malfunction.
2. Interchange ignition coil with other coil to localize
malfunction, replace as indicated.
3. Check plug and wiring harness to ignition coil.

The other two faults are as a result of one or both of these two main ones.

Hope this helps
