chp..smog check in westchester/lax

luckily in my work car on Manchester blvd + Lincoln blvd this morning.
come up on a CHP 'smog inspection/general violations' setup...first time i have seen one, scary, it nearly gave me a panic attack thinking what if i were in the M 'without a couple cats', oh the old honda days are haunting me......would they have pulled me over? at the time they had an old gardeners van in the inspection bay.
anyone get 'busted' by one of these inspection sites?

You have to remember that these sites are voluntary only. If they ask you to pull over you need to do so but they can't force you to test your car. All you have to do is tell them you don't have time and they have to let you be on your way.

thanks for the info! i thought once you are pulled over you have to test but good to know its voluntary only!

Yeah you can find the info on the CARB site somewhere.

do they just sniffer test or actually force you to pop the hood?

it almost looked like a portable 'dyno' machine...lol.
there was a driveup ramp, roller front, and they had a big fan up front...along with a few sniffing machines on wheels with long cords...
