Slow Internet

I have a 2012 Coupe, after updating my bluetooth software my internet finally works for the first time since I got the car, the only issue is that its extremely slow.

Using iPhone4s - on my phone internet speeds are fast (3G) and websites opens quickly - but from the idrive its extremely slow. Any ideas on what it could be?

I think I read somewhere that the idrive only makes use of EDGE and not 3G - is that correct?

Yes, the internet in the car is slow. It's just how it is. No way around it that I'm aware of.

If you're bluetooth tethering off of the iPhone, I think you're limited to 512kbits/sec. Much faster from the phone for sure.

If you're using assist with the convenience plan it's slightly slower than that.

is this a limitation of the iPhone or the iDrive?

Since he alludes to the phone being faster on its own, I believe he is referring to the car as being the limitation.

Wow.. the internet of the old days...

It's a limitation of either the CIC or the Combox/TCU.
