E93 m3 + mountain bike- help

I want to be able to cary my mountain bike to the trail. Any suggestions?

Can I install a trailer hitch?

Is there something that mounts to the trunk?

Sorry if this is a delist but I could find anything when I searched.

Thx!

I just put the back seats down, take my front bike wheel off and put it all into the trunk and back seat area. Works like a charm.

that sounds too "risky" to me........knowing my luck, i'd scratch the car or interior. And what about all the mud, dirt, etc.?!!
Anybody know the exact parts for the roof rack for an E92 ?

There's a couple of threads on bike racks for E93s -- one bolts to the frame and allows you to run a THULE type carrier

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=268660

Also found this one:

I'm planning on getting the former -- the latter one is almost $600 !

I used a King Joe rack from Yakima on my prior M3 vert and it worked great. Really solid rack for a non-roof or hitch mount. I didn't leave it on my car since I really only drove to rides on the weekends and it was easy to put on/take off. Be sure to keep the pads clean and it shouldn't result in too much marring. I took care of that at the end of the season and you could never tell I had a rack.

I'm selling mine (pm me if you are interested.) Here is a link to the product page:

I never considered a bike rack for an E93, but it does sound like an interesting proposition... Summer, sun, E93 and a bike rack... nirvana!

It will not. I'm not sure what the poster above was speaking of. The non-M3 models have pretty different designs where the rear exhaust is. I've had hitches on all my prior cars (even an S2000) to carry my bikes. When I got the M3, it was one of the first things I researched. Unfortunately with the exhaust design, there is nothing you can do.

I'm sure you could fabricate something, but it will not be safe, as it will probably be bolted to the floor pan or something. I sucked it up and bought the OEM/Thule roof rack. Not sure what options there are for the E93 however.

On the other hand, if you're going to be carrying very light loads (light road bike), then I don't see anything wrong with a very simply fabricated hitch mount that's attached to the bumper support or something. I routinely carry a ~50lb downhill bike that would probably rip off half the rear of the car if I tried something funny.

Does the convertible not have the flap mounts like the coupe and sedan?

So I went to the custom hitch guy in my town and said it would be at least a 3 day job to pull off the whole rear end and $1500+ job. Not sure that is worth it on a lease. I may try one of the ones that hooks on the trunk, and just play dumb if it breaks the roof. I don't think it would if I don't try to raise/lower the top with the roof on.

I am open to other suggestions, not ready to buy a second car just to go mountain biking. I was kind of excited for the hitch
